HONEYWELL thx9421R5005 tHERMOSTAT IS NOT ACCURATELY DISPLAYING TEMPERATURE, SHOWS TEMPS THAT ARE TOO HIGH. This causes system to run continuously, and it always calls for both stages of compressor.


First be sure the hole in the wall behind the tstat is sealed with putty or the like. This could be your issue due to negative pressure in the house. What you are describing may be something different, the unit should eventually catch up and satisfy if it was working properly. The house would just be cooler. There is a calibration feature that can change the room temp +/- 5 degrees but seal the whole and measure the return air temp vs the supply air temp AT the unit, NOT the grills.

The exhaust smoke at the top vent of my char broil 30" digital electric smoker reads 245°, but my panelis set at 225°. Can i recalibrate temp settings


Most smoker manufacturers consider a swing of 20 degrees either way acceptably within range, so there's not necessarily a problem there. Remember that your smoker will measure differently depending on where the temp probe is. Heat rises, so it makes sense that it may be hotter at the top, especially if the ambient temperature isn't too cold. Put a cheap oven thermometer on your rack and use that to accurately read the temp where your meat will be.

No that is not an option, use an accurate thermometer and verify the temperature, it may well be just an erroneous reading.

Hello Leo.

The general rule is 0 degrees F in the freezer, and 40 degrees F in the fresh food section. The temps are best measured with a temp guage in a liquid. Digital guages are usually more accurate than analog. But, use what you have available, and if you can't quite believe the readings, ie ice cream is frozen, milk is good and cold, then move up to a better temp guage. Or, if you have two or three different ones, put them all in there and use the average.
If you think temperature adjustment is necessary after testing, make it very small and wait for a day to take another reading.

Temp gauge showing 3/4 to the red after 30 minutes or so. I have replaced t-stat, radiator, coolant, flushed the system, fans are working. I have check for head issue nothing to indicate problem. Timing...


Is the temp gauge accurate.Is car overheating, maybe car is not running hot.Check engine temp with different source.Gauges can go bad over time.

Oven does not maintain a consistent temperature


Is this oven gas or electric? If it is gas then it can be normal to see 30 to 50 degrees difference in tempature. The tempature in a gas oven works on the average tempature. For example: The oven tempature may rise all the way up to 370 degrees. Then the burner will shut off. And then the tempature can drop all the way to 330 degrees. Then take 330 and add that to 370 then divide that number by two and the average tempature will be 350. If your oven is electric then the tempature should be much more consistant but can have a 10 to 15 degree variance. Also the standard oven tempature guage that you put in the oven or even the temp guage built into the oven are not very accurate. We us a Fluke meter with a thermocouple to calibrate an oven. So to check your oven for proper tempature regulation you will first need to let the oven pre-heat for about 15 minutes. Then place the thermocouple in the center of the oven. If the oven is electric the take a temp reading every 5 minutes and average them out. If the oven is gas then you will need to take a temp reading when the tempature reaches it's highest and lowest points. Take at least 5 consectutive readings and average them out. You should get an average within 10 degrees of set temp(350 degrees). If it is off by 35 degrees or less you can usually caluibrate the thermostat back to proper temp. This procedure can be different for each range model. If it is more than 35 degrees off or you are getting irratic readings then the thermostat or thermostat components might need to be replaced.

No, that is just fine. As a matter of fact, older ranges often had 50 to 60 degree swings in temp. Your oven temp (assuming your thermometer is dead on accurate) is 347 + 365 / 2 = 356 degrees when set at 350. I never mess with ovens which are within 10 degrees of set temp. (when checking the temps, make sure to take the readings after the oven has cycled on and off at least three times, and use a good digital oven calibration thermometer)

A temp bulb will is only accurate to plus or minus 10 degrees sometimes as much a 20 degrees the ideal place for the bulb is in the intake air flow the bulb comes with a line that is long enough for this application
