OK, you will need to replace the "defrost thermostat" that is located on the coils in the freezer. Here is the part to order. If that was the problem before, the repair tech sold you a part you didn't need. I can't stand service techs that do that! Anyways, keep me posted.

I'm a little confused by the word "defrost". I'm assuming that this keeps the coils from freeaing up? Because I'm not trying to defrost, I"m trying to freeze :) Thanks for your help!

The defrost thermostat tells the defrost heater when to melt the ice from the coils in the freezer when there is a buildup that will keep the freezer and refrigerator from reaching the proper temperature.

SOURCE: My freezer won't stay cold enough to keep food frozen.

I had this problem about a year ago with mine. You need to replace the heating element located at the bottom of the freezer. It's behind a plate that you can remove after loosening a couple of screws. This heating element defrosts the freezer. When it goes bad it allows ice to form over the coils and then the freezer actually warms up. It's around $30 and an easy fix. You just need to unplug a couple of wires and put the new one in.

i have just fixed my fridge freezer by following the instruction from KarenBa and GWoman i have also managed to stop the lights (super cool and super freeze) from flashing by turning the temperature to zero on both fridge and freezer so they turn off then holding both super buttons down for about 15 seconds then turning the temperature back up. hope this helps

SOURCE: freezer cold, fridge warm

Hi, You have a self defrosting problem.
Remove the rear inside freezer panel and check continuity on the defrost element and bi-metal switch. The bi-metal has to be tested cold. If there is continuity on both parts, you will need to change the defrost timer.
The most common part that goes bad is the element. I hope this helps you. Please leet me know if I can assist you further.

SOURCE: Ice in my fridge

Without seeing this I can't tell you a price or exact fault but the first free thing to try that could likely fix it. unplug the unit from the power and leave both the doors open for 48hrs so the unit is 100% defrosted then try again. cheers.

SOURCE: fridge/freezer cooling inefficiently

Either the repair guy did not wire up the heater correctly or he replaced the wrong part, if the heater was good it was likley to be the defrost thermostat...I would call the repair guy back to check.

Fridge warm, freezer has frost on back panel & is defrosting, fans work, just changed defrost thermostat, no air is moving from freezer side to fridge side, drain pan under fridge is dry

this fan needs to run when the compressor runs, check fan blade for being jammed by ice if you have this much ice on back wall as ice will stall motor,if no fan there will be no cool air to refrige compartment also the defrost drain tray will fill with water then freeze over which in turn floods the freezer floor and refrige compartments cause it cannot drain to the pan in the bottom

Freezer not freezing properly, ice on back wall

Ice on the back wall indicates a problem with the defrost cycle. The ice builds up and starts to choke off the air flow, so your symptoms would indicate that may be happening.

Defrost problems are usually any of the three components, the heater element, the defrost termination temp switch, or the defrost timer.

Older Kenmore side by side, freezer warm....again!

"Fuzzy Ice on the back wall" yep, this sounds like a defrost system problem. You say you cleaned this fuzzy ice but, the real ice is behind that wall. I would get it fixed but call several service people and get a price. My guess is that once the defrost system is working then the Ice maker will work. If the freezer is not getting cold enough then the Ice maker won't work.

Now, the drain can cause a problem too but this is an easy fix. Pull out the bottom drawer in the freezer, look in the back under the cooling coils and you should see the drain hole. Keep this area clear of Ice and any thing else. Some tubing with a little air pressure will usually clear any blockage. A little hot water down that drain won't hurt. The water should drain to the a plastic pan under the Ref. Take the front grate off at the bottom of the Ref, look in the pan to make sure it went through.

This should be checked often, once a month or so.
