Question about Gateway 835GM (835GH) PC Desktop
Waynerd: I'm waiting for you're answer to my last question, to recap:
Thank you and all the other Fix Ya members for their assistance thus far.
Please be advised that I installed the G.Skill 2GB [1X2GB] without any problems.
I need your help with the following issues:
Before installing the SATA optical drives should I uninstall both IDE drives from the device manager?
Should I set the SATA controller to automatic in the BIOS before I begin to install the SATA optical drives?
My Intel 945G only has the hard drive installed in the SATA connectors. Its installed on the furthest right side connector. Refer to the picture of the motherboard you sent me.
Can I install the drives in any order on the controllers, or is there a specific path to follow?
Once properly installed do I have to download any drivers for drives, or will windows automatcally find them?
Can I leave the drives on the CS setting, or do I need to set master and slave?
Once again, waynerd, and all the others, thank you for taking your personal time to assist me with my problem.
My sincere thanks,
I would just physically remove the drives and the connecting cable(s) and reboot your computer. Look in the device manager and make sure they are gone. They should be gone, but if not, you can then remove them from it.
There is no certain slot to install the new drives, just use the next 2 slots. You can set the SATA Bios setting anytime. I think most defaults are set to Auto anyway.
I would leave the jumpers on CS.
As far as drivers, I would assume there will be software with drivers enclosed with the new drives. Windows will recognize the new drives, and when it asks about drivers, there should be a "Have Disk" selection if you get a CD with the drive. (If no CD, have it install/search for the best drivers.)
There will no doubt be installation instructions enclosed with the new hardware too. Read it thoroughly. It may answer much of what you ask here. Good luck.
