Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

My whirlpool cabrio wtw6600sw2 type 580 washer is making a terrible spinning grinding noise when in the spin cyle. It is sooo loud - I am figuring it is a bearing or something but it is only 4 years old and a bearing should not be going out already...what can I do to fix this -any help would be appriciated.

I am a Sear's tech and it is the bearing more than likely, I also own a cabrio myself. Is it a loud, constant roar when it spins? If so you have to replace the tub itself, comes with the bearing. Pretty time consuming job, but I've done several of them. The tub might have a 10 yr warranty, check your owners manual. If not, here is the tub to order.
The tub comes as a complete kit with all the seals and bearing.
Keep me posted!

well I ended up calling whirlpool who sent a tech out - he says its the bearing like we both thought it could be, its a 85 call and 285 in parts n labor - i agreed because I don't want the hassle of tearing it apart and doing something wrong - they come back in 2 days to fix it - I will keep you posted. thanks for your help and answer.

SOURCE: Maytag washer makes loud grinding noise during the spin cycle

if it's making a noise then either your drain pump bearing is going out or your thrust bearing is going out (assuming the noise happens in both spin and wash). Tip the washer backwards so that you can get underneath of it. Take the belt off and spin the pump pulley on the right side. This should spin effortlessly.

The middle pulley is the trustbearing pulley. Spin this--- one direction it should have a little bit of resistance--- the other should have more resistance

Whirlpool cabrio washer keeps flashing code F50

The F50 error code indicates that the RPS (rotor position sensor) detects no motor rotation. Check to see if the basket spins freely. If not, you could have an item caught between the outer tub and the inner spin basket. A toy or other item underneath the washer could also prevent the basket from spinning and would result in this F50 code.

If the basket spins freely, you could have a wiring failure that would prevent the motor from spinning.
