Question about Maytag Atlantis MAV6000 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Loud squeal WHEN THE WASHER SPINS, IT STOPS WITH A LOUD SCREACH.  IT IS AN ATLANTIS MODEL ( MAV7200AWW ).  IT SEEMS TO WORK GREAT OTHER THAN THAT.

I think it's the brake at the end of the cycle. Had a similar problem with an earlier Maytag. It is a great washer other than that.

I have model MAV6200 AWW and the exact same problem. Hope it is not the gears or something major.

We have the exact same problem. We were also told possible problem with transmission and none to be found! Washer 2003 and no children at home here! Washers obviously not made to last long. Older washers had a better lifespan. SO MUCH FOR MAYTAG!!!

Just found a suggested solution to this problem and it is the same suggestion I received from a colleague who worked on repairs to the these types of appliances. Have not tried it yet, but will and then post a follow up. Check out the solution at www.applianceaid.com. It is apparently the brake that stops the tub at the end of the cyclehat causes this squealing.

Good luck

The manufacturer recommends you tilt back the washer and spray some penetrating oil into and around the brake package to stop the squeal.

Washer make a loud squeak when the spinning stops

its the brake, just as long as it stops, dont worry about it, made a web page that has pics on how to replace the spin bearing on the maytag atlantis washer, after searching the net on how to, finding the manual, not explanatory, i decided to make this a simple 1 page web site, with lots of pictures, i hope this can help someone else in doing this job. since it would cost too much money for a repairman to do the job, better to buy a new one instead, i tackled the job. since it basically takes apart the whole machine, it might help others even if they dont have the spin bearing problem but other parts to replace,

Loud squeal during wash and spin cycles, maytag atlantis washer

Squealing normal occurs due to belt slippage. I would check your belts (look for cracks. Check the belt tension as well, most washers have an adjustment, normally on the motor that allows you to increase the tension of the belt.

If part of a belt gets torn and it is long enough, it will hit any part of the washing machine within range and make a clicking noise at every revolution of the motor.

I am pretty sure you need new belts. You should be able to remove a few screws and open the back cover. Between the pulleys there is a tensioner...loosen that so you can remove the belt easily. replace it with a new belt and adjust the tension.

hope this helps
