Question about Dell Inspiron 8600 Notebook
Inspiron 8600 running Windows XP
Machine had a liquid spill on keyboard. Keyboard is damaged, one memory chip failed, main battery is discharged with flashing yellow "fatal error" lights and RTC battery is also dead.
Machine starts and runs fine on AC adapter, with the exception that the RJ-45 port is not functional.
Device Manager reports that the device cannot start.
Administrative Utilities reports Event ID 5008: invalid network address.
Dell Diagnostics reports error code 3B00.0788 -"EEPROM Checksum failure detected. Expected 009Fh received 006Fh.'
Drivers have been unistalled and re-installed from the Resource CD, Dell Support and Broadcom, with no effect.
Device is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller.
I downloaded a DOS diagnostic program that will reprogram the EEPROM, but I do not have the "eeprom.bin" file I need.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Your resolution will most likely be a replacement of the motherboard. You can try flashing the BIOS and see if that resolves, but from your details it appears there is a hardware failure of the motherboard. Generally, you can find a motherboard for this model on Ebay for around $100
