Question about Stanton STR8-100 Turntable

1 Answer

Needle skipping towards end of record

I've recently pulled my Stanton str8 100's out of storage. Everything works fine aside from when the needle gets towards the end of a record and it skips back. Perhaps this is something to do with the anti-skate not working...?

it seems like the tone arm was a bit stiff in getting to the end of the record and a bit of gentle easing it to the side seems to fix the problem.

If you lower the tonearm to the record surface, and it just slides towards the center, chances are the stylus(needle) is either broken or covered with dust. Clean and inspect. For more information, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. Thank you.

SOURCE: Half the signal only through left speaker

Try the switch in the other position and see if that fixes the problem. some turntables had a phono level that is different than a standard rca line level input. Also try a different cable if the rca is not hardwired in to the turntable. The cable could be bad. If worse comes to worse upgrade to another amplifier or tuner that has a separate phono input. hope that helps.

The turntable is the problem, possible causes motor, flat belt is stretched or direct drive issue, needs re-greasing.

Record continously skips after 4 or 5 seconds.

You need to apply more pressure to the stylus. This is done by adjusting a weight on the other end of the arm. See your manual for more details.

ION Profile LP Vinyl-to-MP3 Turntable, tone arm won't drop

I've got the same problem. When you put therecord on, spin it from the centre, and it will release the mechanism inside, this is what I do, and it works fine. I think the problem is that there are twoplates under the turntable, and there was grease between them, after a few goesthe grease disappears, causing the problem.

Skipped stitches. Also, won't transition

have you checked the needle to make sure it's in correctly--flat side of needle goes to the back of the machine

correct needle insertion is mandatory for the proper use in your sewing machine. Raise the needle bar to the highest point, then loosen the needle clamp screw to remove the old needle.
place the new needle in the needle clamp with the flat side of the needle facing the back (or if using a round needle the groove in the needle should be facing away from the shaft.
push the needle all the way up to the stop, or as far as it will go, then tighten the needle clamp screw.

how to decide which needle is correct to sew with, it depends on the fabric & thread being used for the project.
like for example, I've been sewing for over 30 years, I'm sewing a stretchy fabric & regular needles won't work because they skip stitches & will pull the fabric thus damaging the fabric, the needle I have to use is a singer universal ball point needles, & I have no problem with the stitches they come out fine.

My athena is skipping stitches. It's new to me and

Has the needle become blunt/burred by striking a pin or just using it for a while? Blunt needle will cause skipping. A needle needs to be changed after 4-6 hours of sewing to obtain quality stitches and it is easy to forget and not change one. If you can hear squeaking or popping sounds this is often a blunt needle.

Or if you are sewing knit fabrics with a regular needle, this will also cause skipping as the needle will deflect off the stretch fabric fibres. You need to use a ball point needle for knits.

The other possibility is that the timing is out but if it was just checked out by a tech that is unlikely (Unlesss you've had a jam up and struck the needle onto a foot or something).

Start with the needle though, its the most important bit.
