So that Yamaha Receiver using optical input AV4, and it cannot use any of DSP nor sur. decoder ? If this is the case, the Receiver no good.... My old sony 5.1 cheap home threather sound system has no issue with this setup.

  • Ricky Nov 30, 2012

It looks like cause by the 'ARC' and optical TV to Receiver. If you say too hot, I don't fully agree, the receive turns on less than 3 mins every time this happen. How hot can it be at vol -33 db running less than 3 mins.. Look like a bug in firmware on this receiver with HDMI 'ARC' and optiical out from tv to Yamaha receiver.

  • Ricky Nov 30, 2012

Found out the exact issue, there is a system configuration require to set " ARC on -> receiver " from the SAMSUNG SMART TV. (default is 'off')

Once that setup was done, the TV and receiver works perfectly without shutdown.. "Gangnam Style - plays perfectly without interruption"

I am so dumb to miss that setup part.. ( should always read the manual !)

SOURCE: Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Solved problem with Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver. My daughter had inadvertently changed the program to "Direct Stereo" mode which allows sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors so you can listen to 2-Channel PCM and Analog sources. Nothing to decode digital audio in this setting!

SOURCE: I have a Yamaha Rx-v363

this sounds strange, but is true. you need to run your digital audio optical cable from your tv to your receiver (after, of course, connecting tv/receiver via hdmi). so, hdmi from blue ray to rec - hdmi from rec to tv - then optical from tv back to rec. it's round about, but that is how yamaha says (and the only way it works) to do it.

SOURCE: optical audio from cable box to receiver

Do you mean the optical digital audio output from the cable box? This is so you can listen to Digital sound from cable tv broadcast, First go to the cable box remote control, select setup or menu to find audio, then select audio output, check digital audio, not mts or stereo, this should enable to optical output instead of the typical 2 channel red and white left and right RCA analog audio outputs, sometimes different cable boxes vary, but most require you to enable the optical output via the method listed above.

SOURCE: No Audio thru Optical input

If its a PS3 please realize that you adjust the sound options using the sound option menu on the ps3, so its possible that you have the PS3 set to RCA cable and not the HDMI therefore the optical cable isnt getting any sound from the TV

SOURCE: 8' Optical Cable from TV to Receiver and Signal is Breaking Up

Before you buy anything try checking the AUDIO Settings in the Menu of Each Device (Mostly TV) and see if they are set to PCM or BITSTREAM. HDMI is mostly set to PCM while Optical is generally Bitstream. The TV may be set to the opposite of what it needs to be. I would try to get PCM to work first cause it is Better, If not then set what you can to Bitstream and it should pass. Also check in TV Menu for SOUND OUT or AUDIO OUT or SPEAKERS. Some TV's have a problem passing Audio through when they are already Outputting them to it's own Speakers! I Hope this Helps out!

Volume goes up and down at will

Incedental lighting can affect the IRD receiver module on the front of the TV. Try blocking all source of energy with black tape to prove this. If no effect then you may have to reset the TV or reprogram the input device, cable, on air etc....

No sound using optical cable connected to LG smart tv 60LN5600

Your receiver has 2 optical inputs. If you plugged in the cable to Input 1, you can select the "CD-R" Input on the receiver. Then use the "Signal Select" button to select Optical 1 (O1).

You can also use the "Input Select" buttons on the remote until the receiver says "Digital". Then use the "Signal Select" button to select Analog (A), Coaxial 1 (C1), Optical 1 (O1), or Optical 2 (O2).

Sound issue through Home theatre when pulling up applications

Smart TV's make up the audio output for your smart tv apps. You will need to use the Optical output of the TV and plug it into an available Optical input to the home theater receiver. Make note of the name of the input on the home theater receiver (i.e. CD/DVD, TV, DVD, etc) because that is the input you'll have to select on the receiver to hear the App audio. Hope that helps

My (Cable Service) wire feed is directly behind my HDTV and hooked up over my fireplace . The Rxv667 is located on a side wall book shelf. I have A HDMI wire running to the TV from my receiver. Do I need...

Is there a set top cable box, or are you feeding the cable directly to your HDTV (coax directly to the TV). If you are feeding cable directly to the HDTV then you don't need HDMI. There maybe exceptions, but most TV's don't have HDMI output. The only thing you need to run from your TV to the Yamaha is an audio cable. I assume your HDTV has an optical audio out (either TOS or coax.... Your Yamaha will accept either). Connect the optical audio cable to the AV4 input on the Yamaha. This way when you hit the TV scene button on the Yamaha remote, it will select the AV4 audio input (the default for the TV scene). The optical cable will feed the full audio signal, so that the Yamaha can pass through the surround sound or use the decoder as appropriate to feed your 7.1 or 5.1 speaker system.
If you have a set top box, you may be better off moving that near the Yamaha. In this case, cable goes to settop box, output of set top box via HDMI or component video (RGB) and optical audio to the Yamaha (if you use HDMI Input 2, and AV4 for the optical audio (if necessary), the TV Scene will select the appropriate inputs) and then an HDMI to your HDTV.
In case one, you may need to setup the TV to process the audio appropriately. I have experience with Panasonic Plasma but thats about it.

How do i assign audio from optical AV to hdmi4?

Hi, unfortunately this is not possible on RX-V465. HDMI can have sound only from HDMI. All A/V inputs are paired, except for analog Audio 1-2, to which you can assign any of the analog video AV1-6.

But you can connect the video via HDMI directly to your TV and connect only audio to receiver via optical AV1 or AV4.
