Question about Acer Aspire 1640Z Notebook

1 Answer

Volume Control I try to turn up my volume with the fn control just like always and nothing happens so I go to the main control panel and cannot find where the control is for the speakers on my laptop, so then I go to advanced volume control and it tells me that there are no active mixer devices and that I have to install them.

how do i reinstall my sound card drivers?

  • Mark Rogers May 11, 2010

Did you install/re-install your sound card drivers?
If it says no active mixer devices that means it isn't using an audio driver.

You need to use the CD of your motherboard to install the sound card driver. Do it on Device Manager. If you don't have the disc, you can download the sound driver for Acer from their website.

My Panasonic cf-w8 is mute? How do I unmute it? Does the Fn button have something to do with it?

Well the FN key could have set the mute on if the mute key was also pressed.

Click the megaphone at the bottom right near the time and open the audio properties and volume control. Check to make sure the mute is not checked.

You can also click Start/Control Panel and look for Audio or Sound and adjust to make sure the mute is not check.

On your keyboard if you Press and Hold the FN function key at the lower left portion of the keyboard then you can hit the key that has the megaphone with an X across it to take the mute off.

Some laptops have 3 buttons that control the volume. One for turning the volume up, one for turning the volume down and one for muting the volume.

Volume balance not working

There are different ways to adjust the volume. Maybe you have the volume on mute. There are keys that control the volume on some laptops. Normally you would Press and Hold the FN function key located at the lower left portion of the keyboard then hit one of the 3 keys (keys with a megaphone on it) that control the volume.

Some models might have buttons you can press that control the volume.

You can always click on the megaphone at the bottom right near the time and adjust the volume properties.

You can click Start/Control Panel and look for Audio or Sound and adjust the volume.

Check your laptop for a speaker icon on one of your keys, mine is on the Esc key, once found press the Fn key and hold, now press the key that the speaker icon is on and sound should be restored.
