This may be due to:
1.line drop. check your provider and splitter
2.may be your router is getting heated up. make an arrangement to get some cool air while working
3. mis configuration in router setting. goto 192.168.1.1 in your browser, type admin as username and password. press enter and check the settings one by one.
This all will solve the problem

What you can do is go into your routers settings via 192.168.1.1 and put in the username and password. Go into the wireless tab and change the wireless channel to 8 or somthing. Everyone usually has it set on 6 and this can cause a large problem if there are alot of wireless networks in the area.

If this doesn't work, try to do a hard reset on the router. Hold down the button on the back of the router for 10 seconds. This will clear all of the settings out of its memory. Then try to connect again. If this doesnt work power down both your router and your cable modem. Let them sit for a minute and then plug in the modem and wait 30 seconds. Then plug in the Wireless router. The issue should resolve itself. Also do the above.

SOURCE: Can't stay connected to the internet with my laptop, but dekstop(which is directly connected to the router) has internet

I'd try calling verizon on the issue first and have them test your line. If that comes back clean, then you need to look at any extra equipment you may have at your house (alarm systems, etc.) that could throw disruption on your line. Also make sure you have filters on your phones!

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: I have a new Toshiba

Hello,

What specific message do you get when you open up internet explorer? Below, I will go over some tips to get you connected to the internet.

-Can you try a different browser like Mozilla Firefox? This will help narrow the problem down. Download and install firefox on the computer in question and see if you can get online. If so, we know Internet Explorer is the issue. (*if you have a usb drive or cd, you can transfer firefox install from a working computer to the computer in question*)

-Reboot your devices. Turn off the computer, modem and router. After 10 seconds turn on the modem, after 30 seconds turn on the router and after 30 seconds turn on the computer. Are you able to get online now?

-In Windows, go to Start > Run and type "cmd" or "command". In the DOS window type

C:> ipconfig /all
What Ip address does it give you?
Type
C:> ping www.google.com or www.msn.com or www.google.com
Are you able to ping these sites?

-Disable any anti-virus programs you have and Windows Firewall. To disable Windows Firewall, you should be able to go to Start > Control Panel > Security or Windows Firewall. Disable and see if you can get online.

-In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > Click on the Privacy tab and move the slider all the way down for security to the lowest.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

SOURCE: How do I get my

Hello,

When you are within a region of discoverable network, you would be able to connect to that network's internet access. But if that network is weak, there is a possibility that when you move out of range of the network, there would be a fluctuation or disconnection. So, if you must use the wireless in the office, check that the signal strenght is high. If it is not, aviod moving about.
You may not be able to access your office network when you are out of the office.

Hope that helped?

Just got a qwest pk5000z when plugged in power light stays solid green, dsl light stays solid green, then I receive Internet connection.. After about 30 seconds it resets and starts the whole process over....

Are you using the RJ45 ended Ethernet cable?
I've been battling an issue where an Ethernet cable plugged in caused the PK5000Z to reboot approximately every 120-300 seconds (2-5 minutes).
Switching to just the wireless and not having any Ethernet cables plugged in resolved the issue.
Unfortunately this won't work for me since I only use the modem as my gateway to the internet and actually have an Astaro Secure Gateway Firewall that connect to the modem via Ethernet. I'll be contacting their technical support again tomorrow as I've had 3 modems RMA'd and not a single person there at Century Link could figure out what to try except to keep RMAing them.
So anyone else hitting this issue, try using just the wireless instead of the Ethernet Cable.

My computer won't connect to the internet wired or wireless. What is wrong, what can I do to fix this?

Hi.

First of all restart your PC. While the PC is restarting go to the modem and router and remove power from them for 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
Wait for around 1 minute for the router and modem to reconnect then go back to the PC and try to connect to the internet.

Please let me know how you get on.

Good luck.

The internet connection in my area went down yesterday, but i didn't know this and thought the reason i couldn't access internet was a problem with my linksys wrt54g router. So i unplugged and...

The first thing you should do is a proper 'powercycle' for all of your internet equipment.

To do this:

1) Unplug the power to your modem and your router, and power off your computer.
2) Wait a full minute.
3) Plug the power back in to JUST the modem.
4) Wait some more - for the modem to fully connect to your ISP, and the lights to indicate. If you're not sure, just wait about 2-3 minutes.
5) Plug the power back into the router.
6) Wait another minute or two for the router to finish connecting.
7) Then turn the computer back on.

You can bypass the computer turning on and off if you can repair your wireless connection.

If this doesn't work, there is a pinhole sized reset button on the router itself that you will need a toothpick or somesuch to press - press and hold the button for 5 seconds, and then try the steps above again. If you do this, the network id and password will be reset to the default, just like it was when you bought it.
