Question about KitchenAid KSB5 Ultra Power Work Top Blender

1 Answer

I have a Kitchenaid blender model KSB5BU3 marked "Ultrapower" and "Electronic Control" on the side. Suddenly all the buttons started blinking together after we pressed the On button and then one of the speed buttons and the motor does not start. I assume the chip or other electronic part has failed. Is this correct and if so can the unit be fixed or must it be thrown out? Thanks for your advice. **** Hall

When the lights are flashing, this does indicate that an electronic part has failed. This blender is no longer manufactured, so finding replacement parts for it may not come easily. Repair centers are available. I would recommend calling Kitchenaid Customer Service to see what they can recommend for you.

Their toll-free number is 1-800-541-6390.

The motor will probably be open circuit, take it back under guarantee and let them sort it out. If you mess around you will void your guarantee.

Blender won't start

Test motor for continuity, if open circuit locate thermal fuse in windings and replace it. If not open circuit check cable for continuity, if that is ok you are likely looking at a new button control assembly.

Need manual for model #ksm90P SWH

KitchenAid appliance manuals are available from their customer service site: http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/customer-service . On the right, see the link for Locate Manuals and Guides.

KitchenAid lists 3 models that start KSM90PSWH. The direct link to the manual for the KSM90PSWH0 is http://www.kitchenaid.ca/assets/pdfs/literature/Use%20and%20Care%20Guide%20-%209707917.pdf . If this isn't your model, see the KitchenAid site. (The other models are KSM90PSWH1 and KSM90PSWH-1.)

I hope this helps.

When I turn my blender on, it runs for only a few seconds, then stops and all the lights on the panel flash on and off.

More often than not it will need the motor to be replaced, only Kitchen Aid parts will do, motors are usually unique to brands and models. Sometimes it can be the control/button panel but normally the motor.

All lights blinking on my blender

When the lights are flashing, this does indicate that an electronic part has failed. This blender is no longer manufactured, so finding replacement parts for it may not come easily. Repair centers are available.

This error was probably not caused by replacing the coupler, but merely coincidence.

Blender won't work

This indicates an internal problem with the blender itself as pertaining to the motor. I would suggest contacting Kitchenaid Customer Service to see about having the blender repaired or possibly replaced.

Blinking lights on KitchenAid blender

Alternating blinking lights on a Kitchenaid blender indicate a bad circuit board which is unable to run the motor properly. Unplug the blender, take the jar off, and turn the spindle by hand. Then plug it back in. If it does not work properly, try a different outlet (perhaps not in the kitchen). If nothing works, the blender needs to be repaired.
