OK, you will need to replace the water inlet valve. It has a stuck solenoid that is allowing the water to run continuously into the tub. Here is the part to order.

Thank You Richard that seem to do the job.

SOURCE: washing machine overflowing

I'd have a look at your water level detector to start with. Usually a narrow bore hose running from near the bottom of the drum to a pressure switch somewhere near the top of the machine. Most common problem is that the hose gets blocked with gunk. With the machine off and drained, try removing the hose and giving both it and the barb on the drum that it came from a good clean through. A.

SOURCE: Kenmore Series 80 Washer - Water will not stop running

If the wash tub overfills without stopping unless the washer is stopped, this is usually caused by a defective pressure switch or loose air hose going to the pressure switch. The pressure switch is located behind the water level knob inside the console. It is common for the rubber air dome hose to come off and cause a washer to overfill. The console can be accessed the following ways:

If you have removable end caps, the will lift of by prying up from the ear of the console and pulling from the front. Sometimes inserting a screwdriver in the slot in the top of the end cap on the back of the washer and giving the screwdriver a slight twist can help to pop the end cap loose. There will be a philips screw under each end cap that will need to be loosened.

If the end caps are not removable, you will need to slide a putty knife under the front corner of the console where it meets the top of washer on each side and push in to release the retaining clip that holds it in place.

Once you have the console loose, you can flip it up over the back panel to its resting position. Use care not to damage the small plastic hinges that hold the console to the washer.

With the console in its resting position, examine the pressure switch. It will be a round plastic switch located on the left hand side (sometimes located in the center) of the console. There will be an electrical connection and a rubber hose attached to it. More common than not, the rubber hose comes off. If this is the case, reattach the hose to the small nipple on the switch. Use care not to break the nipple. You can take a small zip tie and place it over the hose where it is attached to the nipple and secure it snugly to help keep the hose in place. Do NOT over tighten as you can damage the nipple. The zip tie creates enough resistance the keep the hose from sliding off from vibration over time.

If the pressure switch hose is still attached, double check your electrical connection. If the connector is intact, replace the switch as a last resort. If you can provide me with your model number (located under the lid along the wash tub rim) I can get a part number for you and let you know how much the switch would cost. I hope this helps you.

if the water was overflowing from the top of the tub it sounds like the pressure hose came loose. tilt the control panel back and you will prob see the hose that connects to the left side (where you adjust the water level) has come loose. cut about 1/4 inch off of it and re-connect it.

It will not be a sensor,,,it will be what is called a "Ball **** valve" and they are pretty cheap to replace.
This same valve is in your toilet tank.

My Sears series 80 washer fills till it is overflowing and doesnt shut off water flow, it was overflowing onto floor this morning, it is full to the rim now, and wont drain or do anything when it is turned...

The usual arrangement is there are 2 electrical water inlet valves, one for Hot and 1 for Cold. These valves are turned on by the timer, and remain on until the water level switch turns them on, and allows the washer to then run. It sounds like this water level switch is bad. This switch should be in the panel above the top of the washer, and has a rubber/plastic tube that goes toward the washer drum. It is also possible that the rubber tube is off or blocked. (if the water inlet valve is stuck open, turning the washer off will NOT stop the water).

Good Luck,

The problem is simple and easy to fix. Your washer has a tubing which runs from the base of the tub to the water pressure switch. It might have vibrated loose from the switch, or their can be some sediment in the tub. Blow out the tubing and reattach it securely to the switch and pump out the water in the tub. Then try it again. I wrote an article about this:

Toilet bowl water keeps running eventhough flushing already finished or eventhough water in the tank already full. Model CST414M (elongated TOTO toilet). I appreciate your immediate assistance.

Look at float level, be sure that you are not running water into the overflow tube. Is the inlet valve closing? Pull the little tube that goes from the inlet valve assembly to the overflow tube and observe... Check the flapper valve for distortion, deterioration, or buildup. If anything is there, replace it.

Your problem is not with the washing machine. I suspect that the drain line for your toilet is obstructed further down the line than your snake can reach. If you have a clean out riser to your sewer system, flush the toilet while someone else is watching the flow past the clean out. I would say that renting a sewer line snake at a tool rental like Home Depot would solve your problem. Good luck

The washer overflowed today. Does not seem to be

Overflowing is caused by the pressure switch, it needs to be replaced. Regarding the cold water, it is a water valve issue.
Both needs to be replaced.

Water dose ot stop when washer is full. It continues to run.

If you disconnected power and water still flowed, replace the water valve. If water stopped flowing when power was disconnected, clean out tube from tub to water level switch.

Water keeps running will not shut off causes and overflow

If it only overflows while the washer is running, check the pressure switch, or water level switch. The hose may have come loose, or could have a hole in it somewhere. Otherwise the switch may be stuck or may need to be replaced.

If it's overflowing when the washer is off (i.e. in the middle of the night when there is no laundry in it), then check the water valve.
