Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

1 Answer

I can always see water clear up to the bottom rim of my washer(door) after a load is finished. I had a technician out & he said some water always stays in the washer. It has become so bad that I have to run an empty load before I can do my laundry or the clean (?) clothes smell soured. This is unaceptable.

First turn off and remove the outlet hose from the drain. Because the machine has water in it - it will be heavy to move. Lower the hose into a bowl to drain it.

Check to see that the hose is not full of debris / grease.
If it does seem bad, replace it in the outlet again, and use a cup of soda crystals in the machine - wash it on a hot cycle and see if it clears things.
There should also be a plastic hose support at the top of the outlet to stop the hose from kinking. Often it is missing and over time causes this problem.

Please post back if it does not improve before rating, as there are other causes too.

The washer wont spin on the wash cycle and water is standing in the bottom

You have a clogged water pump/ bad or a door switch .it is easier to remove the back panel to access the pump. Now remove as much water, now make Sure the machine is unplug. Get lots of towels , removed the two screws that holds the pump. Place towels under pump, caution water. Slowly unscrew the drain, but do not remove yet. After water is finish remove and clear pump trap. If the pump seems clear remove the pump and test it. You can open it Mark the location with nail polish for easier installation. Open the pump look for debris. If none of that works its the door switch. Good luck.

I have a Whirlpool Washer, Duet, 3 years old. I have had the washer stop withour being finished with the cycle. None of the controls would start it, the door was locked, and the error showed an F 21...

The F21 error code indicates a long drain time on this type of washer. The door will not unlock if the washer control detects that water is still in the tub. To manually unlock the washer door, take these steps:

  1. Unplug the washer to completely disconnect electrical power.
  2. Remove the bottom front service panel as shown in the first image below.
  3. Carefully reach up through the bottom opening and pull the release tab on the bottom of the door lock assembly until it clicks. NOTE: Internal metal edges in the washer can be sharp. Protective gloves are recommended for this procedure.
By pulling the manual release tab on the door lock assembly, you should be able to get the washer door open.

After opening the door and removing the clothes, I recommend emptying any remaining water in the tub with a wet/dry vacuum (or bail it out). Since you already have the bottom front service panel off and the washer unplugged, you can arrange shallow pans and towels to catch any remaining water and pull the filter out and clean it You may find a clog in this area that is preventing your washer from draining properly. Clear any clog or debris from this area and reassemble the washer. Check your drain hose for a kink or clog. Check the washer house drain for a clog or restriction. Test the washer to see if it will drain properly.

Here is a video to show you how it is done.

My bendix washing machine door does not open after wash cycle ha finished

  1. Is there still water in the machine when the wash cycle has finished? If so, the door doesn't open because there is still water in the machine. Try clearing the filter at the bottom of the machine, in the front. If this doesn't work, check that the drain hoses are cleared. If it still doesn't work, try replacing the drain pump.
  2. Is the "door" light still on? You may have a faulty door lock assembly, or your control board may be faulty.
