Take out the cartridge from the fixture and make sure it has all of the "O" rings and stoppers.
look at the instruction again, make sue you are installing it the right side up. if all that, the shower still leak, then you need to talk to the place you brought the fixture, it may have a defective cartridge.

You need to install a new moen cartridge its a single handle posi-temp cartridge you should be able to get 1 for free if you are the original owner by calling 1-800-buy-moen more than likely when soldering in the new valve a little bit of solder broke free into the cartridge or hard water. When the water gets turned off and then turned back on it can break free alot of particles that can get jammed up in these cartridges or any fixture for that matter you will need a cartridge puller to perform this job with ease.

Moen Shower Valve Model L82839 installed: Water comes out of shower head when running bath. Thanks.

Only two possibilities here the diverter tub spout is not open all the way to let water to the tub only or the shower valve is installed up-side-down.

During construction did you perhaps close off a shut off valve within the water line and not reopen it? If not do you hear anything at all when you turn the shower faucet on? Let me know.

I'm not aware of any problems with non moen replacement parts being the cause for a water hammer problem. Start with the simplest and cheapest correction which is using a moen replacement cartridge. If the water hammer persists then you may have to install a water hammer arrester in the plumbing system. This is basically a shock absorber in the plumbing system to stop the effect of water hammer. An arrester will cost you around $10 to $15 at your local plumbing supply shop. If you are not comfortable soldering copper then you will want to hire a licensed plumber to complete the work for you.

I had the same type of problem with an older toilet in my house. It developed a water hammer when it shut off after filling the tank. I replaced the fill valve with a generic universal replacement for about $10 and it stopped. Again sometimes the simplest fix will work. Let me know how it works out.

Waters hot instead of cold when you turn it on

You have to remove cartridge and rotate 180 degrees then re-install. Was it removed or replace lately?

Temp control doesn't allow water to get hot enough

remove the handle and there should be a white plastic deal behind the handle that you can remove it's a temperature limit setter so people dont burn themselves remove it and you will get the full hot water

Single handle moen bath fixture only lets out hot water

remove the cartridge and see if their is anything blocking the cold inlet. If you dont see any dirt than that means that the cartridge needs to be replaced
