I was able to get the drum rotate by hand after a little pushing ad pulling. The drum will now tumble but it is slow and not normal.

You will need to remove the top and see if you can find what it is hanging on.

after disassembling half of the dryer and unhooking the belt it still doesn't work. It appears that the shaft bearing is locked up, the motor is trying to turn but can't.

I know this isn't the solution you were hoping for but here is the manual for your machine:

You say it rotates L & R...do you mean it agitates but the timer isn't advancing?

How to get to dryer drum. GE mod#dbvh520ej2ww

Hello there and welcome to fixya
The most common problem with these are the motor or the motor bearings or rollers
and next is clothes getting caught between the drumb and the shell of the unit
Here is some troubleshooting help for you listed below
Motor If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor: Remove the belt. Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing. Manually rotate the shaft of the motor. If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor. If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again. If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor

Kenmore model # 86470810 buzzes when I press start but won't run

The motors centrifugal switch may be stuck. Try having someone start it while pressing in the door switch while you rotate the drum with your hand by grabbing one of the drum vanes. I don't know which direction your drum rotates. Try both. This may start the drum turning on its own and resetting the switch

Clothes dryer drum will not spin. open it up and belt looks ok. now what?

You need to check the blower fan and make sure there's no obstructions (you probably would have noticed by now though).
Remove the belt from the motor pinion and try to rotate the shaft of the motor manually. To remove the belt, you will need to relieve the tension of the belt by moving the idler pulley over to slip the belt off. If it is stiff, or almost impossible to rotate manually, the blower fan housing is clear, then you need to replace the motor. IF.........
The motor shaft rotates freely, try to run the motor with the belt removed. If it does run with the belt removed, then you need to check the idler pulley and the drum itself. The idler pulley is the little wheel that the belt runs around to keep tension on the belt. It may be stiff or frozen.
If you've gotten this far, try to rotate the drum by hand, if it is difficult to do, focus your attention to the rollers and pulley.
If the motor doesnt rotate, even with the belt removed, yet you can turn it freely by hand. You usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor.
I hope that you have found this helpful.
Thanks,
Mike

Dryer hummes when you turn it on but does not rotate

This don't sound good most likely the motor is bad . OK first unplug the dryer take the belt off the motor now plug the dryer back in hit the start switch does the motor turn NOW??? If not its the motor. IF the motor does turn??? could be a weak motor OR Bad bearing in the Back of the tub.
Rotate the TUB by Hand UNPLUG THE DRYER FIRST. IF the tub Rotate freely I would say you
Have a bad Motor But if the tub is very hard to turn now your looking at a bad Bearing
GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPS

I have the GLEQ212ES1 dryer. When it is running. it sounds like something is rubbing against the drum. When you turn it by hand manually, the drum is harder to turn.Could a piece clothing gotten stuck...

Although this is possible, usually one of the wheel bearings may have gotten dry or even is stuck. Inside there are wheels that the drum is steadied by and that rotate with the drum. If it's a year old it should be under warranty and a tech can fix it. If that is a problem, remove the back (after unplugging it) find the wheels and rotate the drum by hand. If a wheel is stuck or dry you will find it. I hope this helps.

Basic order of troubleshoot - gas dryer, electric on (light on when opened), won't rotate or start, hear buzzing when pushing button. No section for Kenmore 70901 gas dryer on this site. I want basic order...

Buzzing as in end cycle tone? That would indicate a stuck switch on the motor and freeing it would buy time until new motor could be installed. Low humm as in motor is stuck and cannot turn would require removing belt and see if motor is stuck, drum is stuck or something in exhaust fan holding it back.

Humming noise on each rotation

Dryers need to be taken apart for cleaning and lubrication when they get noisy. The toughest part is getting the belt off and on. If the machine has a few years on it, a new belt is a good idea while it is apart.
