SOURCE: protect

The protect message indicates a problem was found inside the amplifier. The output transistors are most likely shorted and need to be replaced. This is a fairly simple repair and should cost about $40 in parts plus your local labor charge.

MY SONY HBD-DZ810 HOME THEATER IS CONSTANTLY SHOWING PUSH POWER PROTECTOR

The "PROTECT" and "PUSH POWER" messages will flash alternately when the protective device of the amplifier has been activated because a strong signal was input, or if there is a short-circuit detected. Press the POWER button on the unit to turn off the system, and check the following items after "STANDBY" disappears.

1) Are the + and - speaker cords short-circuited?
2) Are you using only the specified speakers?.
3) Is anything blocking the ventilation holes of the system?

Hi,
Push power protect message appears when home theater got problem in amplifier output section and any output amplifier chip becomes bad, receiver set protection mode and refuse to power up to avoid further damage in circuit board.
It is very hard for novice to troubleshoot what output chip is defective out of six amplifier output ICs in unit, check by professional is needed to solve this issue.
Hope these info will help you.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

Display panel says protect as soon as switched on and can get no responce from any command

The protect message is an indication that a problem was found at the final stage of the amplifier. Typically, this is caused by defective output transistors. A confirmation of this can be made by removing the speaker wires and turning on the unit. If the protect message still appears, the problem is internal to the unit and it will require repair. The DAV series of units are not the easiest to work on and replacement parts are limited. I would suggest that you get a detailed repair estimate from an authorized Sony service center. Post the results here and we should be able to walk you throught the actual repair.

Power protector on sony surround sound system

Power protect is an error message that some thing is wrong in your sound system and requires qualified tech.

Normally that error message appears when unit got problem in amplifier output section, either it is speaker problem or some output chip is fried.

I think, your Home theater gives you error message " protect unplug", means home theater has problem in Amplifier section and will not be power up to function.
You should check Amp section aspacialy Amp Output stage.
