Use a program called spotmau ...it boots at startup and finds or removes all passwords amoungst many other things .
you need to download it and copy files to cd to create bootdisk unless you can find iso version ...I have both options(versions)

i checked the HP support website and according to HP's policies on bios passwords, they offer a paid service for the password removal

**see the section of "Power On"

i read in some discussions that the service costs ~$35.

I have a hp pavilion dv 1659 us (dv 1000) the sata drive goes bad

It will recognize the new drive if you were able to "migrate" your data from the old drive. If not, you can clean install by booting from an optical drive (changing your boot order at start-up) and using a new OS disk or your recovery disks. You might be able to perform a remote partition & format and install from one drive to the other with USB external enclosures for each drive and another computer (depending on the 100G drive's condition). I hope this helps.

How can i resolve a bios checksum problem with my hp pavillion dv 2000 laptop

A BIOS checksum error is usually related to a near flat BIOS battery.
Replace the BIOS battery then boot up the laptop and go into the BIOS configuration and set the Date and Time settings etc. and the checksum error will disappear.
