On the thermosta there are terminals, what you need to do is look at the old thermostat that you are replacing and make a note to yourself; what color of wire goes to which terminals,, Rc, R, C, G, W, Y, O, ect.
This is because the installer can use any color of wire. Then just hook the wires up to the same lettered terminals. American Standard should be standard terminal setup.
