Question about Canon PowerShot S51S Digital Camera

1 Answer

Blurred pictures on canon powershot S1IS

Only one out of 20 pictures is clear, rest are blurred/distored. As per canon company in USA, this is caused by connections to CCD image sensors and will be fixed for free, including shipping cost, if I lived inside USA. Do we have the same deal here in Canada. If so, where do I send Camera to be fixed.

thank you Wes Archer

I have the same problem. I bought the camera in the UK and live in France. If this correction is available here or in the UK I would be pleased to hear from someone.

I keep taking blurry pictures. In Auto, P, TV, AV, M, C etc.
What am I doing wrong? Could it be because of me moving or shaking?
What should I use to take regular picture good pictures without the blur?

I don't know if Canon is offering out of warranty repairs in any country. You should contact Canon in your country to request a repair if it's under warranty, or ask about the fault if it's a recognised common fault
Cananda, look here:

UK, look here:

I'd like to offer a footnote to Dtckob - blurry in sports setting.

Although your problem also could be related (to the fault in the CCD) Canon digital camera are notorious for their "auto" settings getting it wrong when they push the limits trying to get the shutter speed as fast as possible, and when the camera's ISO is in 'Auto' mode, the Sports setting will often set the ISO high, too high, resulting in spotty/grainy blurry pics.

Solution:: When taking sports pics, set the ISO manually to 400 at the most, even try 200 (lower the better quality, but the slower the camera shoots at).

Please let me know how this goes.

No image -- just colors on led and photo

I found the same fault, but for me it is intermittent. I have tried all sorts of things to clear it, but the best seems to be leave it turned off for a while. I bought my Ixus 400 in Sept 03 and the fault started in Jun 07. It shows already taken pictures with no problem on review on the LED screen, but the screen blurs (with motion) and records that same blurred image.
