Alot of people seem to be having this problem. Angles can be measured in two units, degrees and radians. Your calculator is currently doing everything in terms of radians. I have an 84 but I'm sure the 83 is similar, go under MODE and look for Degrees and Radians and make sure you choose degrees. if you have to convert, 360[degrees] = 2* pi [radians]
(easy to remember, 360deg in a circle, 2pi radians in a circle)

I have just done what you said you had done, but I got a nice, correct table of values. You might have discoverd a secret command to clear memory.

Hello,
The derivative of the cubic root of x is, as you wll know, equal to (1/3)*x^(-2/3). Its limit as x approaches 0 is undefined. However the calculator uses approximate representations of numbers to calculate. And you can never be sure what it is going to give as results near singularities (poles of functions).

Calculators with Computer Algebra Systems can do better. To show you this, I am enclosing a screen capture showing you the correct result.

On this screen I defined a function u =f(v) where u is the derivative of cubic root of v. I stored 0 in the dummy variable v, and I evaluated the function u at v=0. You can see that the result displayed is undefined.
That this result is deemed correct seems to me just a matter of convention. We do not know, we cannot know, or we dont care to know? It will not make any of us lose sleep.

Try reseting your calculator if needed, and sometimes answers can be off because the calculator sometimes is so precise you answers may be rounded.

You can't simply enter 7x+9=30 into the calculator, there is a way to calculate what the x is but its been a few years since I've done these..

I am sorry, there is nothing to fix. The answer is perfectly correct. 62250/1450=439310344828
I think you meant to divide 65250 by 1450, the result of which is 45.

### Zoom function on tI-83 plus

The calculator is not designed to quit on you without giving a fair warning: an error message. There are several Zoom functions, each with its specificities, so saying that the zoom function quit on you does not help a bit.
The safest Zoom you can use without any prior knowledge of the function is the ZoomStd (Zoom standard). It sets Xmin=-10, Xmax=10, Ymin=-10, Ymax=10. That is also what you get if you reset the memory.

You did not explicitly ask a question. Nonetheless I tried to answer with blinders on my eyes. If you still want to understand what you have been doig wrong with the Zoom, post a comment to this thread spelling out what you have been trying to do and the error message you got.

You're both right, in a way. (-64)^3 is -262144. The square root of that is +/- 512i. Take your choice as to the sign.

For what it's worth, the TI-84, TI-86, TI-89, and the HP 50g all go with the negative value.

### How do enter a lim of function when from one side using nderiv

Hello,
nDeriv( is valid only for real variables.
The syntax is as follows:
nDeriv ( expression, variable, value, epsilon)

expression: the function the derivative of which you want to calculate
variable: the name of the variable in the expression above (usually x)
value: the numerical value of the e x where you evaluate the derivative
epsilon: the numerical value of the tolerance. Default is 1x10^(-3). But you can change it to a smaller value to obtain a more precise result.

To use default value of epsilon
nDeriv ( expression, variable, value)

To use a different epsilon, ex 1x10^(-4)
nDeriv ( expression, variable, value, 0.0001)

nDeriv( A^3 , A, 5., 0.0001) should give you 75
