Hello- What is probably happening is that the simmer orifice is clogged. If this gets clogged-up and not enough gas comes out to the burner it will continue to click. This is usually pretty easy to remedy. Take off the burner cap and you will see two holes, one in the center for the main burner and a smaller one that is on the perimeter of the burner. Look down that small hole and you should see a bronze orifice, it is pretty small, about 1/8" in diameter on the outside, looks like a nut. Most likely you will see grease or charred bits on the top of it (you can use one of the other burners for a reference if you are having trouble seeing it clearly) In the center of the orifice is a tiny hole, this is the part that is likely clogged. Now, you'll need to find something really skinny, like thin sewing needle and poke it into the orifice opening. Sometimes it is necessary to hold onto the needle with needle-nosed pliers in order to get it far enough in. Just be gentle with it and if what you are using seems too large in diameter then it probably is, you don't want to dent or cause any damage to the orifice opening. Once you get it cleaned out it should work ok. Let me know if you have any questions. Best regards.

Can the glass of a whirlpool cerano hob suddenly crack?

You didn't need 'red hot' to simmer. When you got it red hot, and then put the pan on it, the pan sucked the heat out of the ring to fast, and caused stress in the glass causing it to crack. Tops are meant to be used the way you used it. Your fault I am afraid.

The top can be replaced.

DCS 305 cootktop: one burner will not stop clicking + the simmer flame is not on consistently around the burner.

Electronic igniters will not turn off when the gas burner lites. all four igniters run untill you turn off the nob or unplug the unit

I'm dealing with this same problem. This cooktop has a dedicated simmer burner which is the only thing going on the lowest setting. This simmer burner seems to be how the igniter senses that it can stop. If it doesn't light, the igniter keeps clicking. Usually cleaning the burner will solve this. You may need to unscrew the nut holding the lower piece of the burner in place in order to clean it up.
Good luck!

The flame is too high on my GE Profile gas cooktop

I had the same issue on my jgp975 and sadly I had to purchase a different unit. I use simmer frequently and I made the assumption that low was simmer. Wrong. I believe a true simmer is 450 btu and my unit did not go that low. I had to check the fine print/specs page and on some units the manufacturer had to be called. I did replace with another ge profile that did have the low setting.

DCS Range Ignition problem

I agree with two of the reviews here. Every so often after a good cleaning, or most recently after some oil spilled over, I had a burner that wouldn't light. All of them clicked, but the one I wanted didn't light. So after reading the above posts, I unscrew the hex nut, removed the shimmer ring, and cleaned it, and mopped up a bunch of oil under where the ring sits. Put everything back together and lit it manually. After 30 secs of flame I shut it down and tried to light it automatically. It worked! Looks like, thanks to some folks here, that I saved myself an annoying phone call and possible repair bill!

Gas cooktop BOOM

Gas is taking too long to ignite. Make sure the burner rings are installed properly. They have grooves that need to line up. Also make sure all the holes are clean.

Replace dcs gas cooktop re-ignition module

donho1,

most likely the problem is the switch places onto the shaft of the valve. to replace the switch, you would need to remove the burner cap and port rings. you will see a large brass nut that needs to be removed on all 4 or 5 burners. next you would need to remove the nut in the center of the simmer port ring which is also the venturi for the main burner. you must be careful when removing this nut as they have a tendancy to lock onto the jet holder and could be hard to remove (don't strip or break the venturi or holder).....after you remove those nuts, the burners and top can be removed (watch the igniter wires). you can remove the switch by removing the retainer clip that holds the switch onto the valvestem.
