SOURCE: my ps3 120gb slim, does

WOW Two whole terrabytes of memory!
The reason would be the size
The PS3's subway buses (USB) only have so much bandiwdth and the Ps3 can only read so much. It would have to breakdown over 2000 gb of data into sectors to read.
It is also possible that your harddrive isn't in the right format. Connect it to a computer and format it to FAT32
Thank you for your time, Good luck and I hope this works

SOURCE: PS3 SLIM FREEZING

The problem is update 3.30. Whatever it contained, it hurt the systems ability to read from the BD Drive. I suspect you can play downloaded content forever without freezing. If correct, the is currently no fix. I am in the same boat. Our only hope is that Sony will come forward with a fix. Currently, if you call them they will say your system is faulty and you need to send it back to them for a swap.

SOURCE: Ps3 slim says hard drive

You will need to update the hard drive. You have to go to playstations website and find the update for your ps3 dashboard you can put it on a memory stick make sure to save it just how sony suggests. Then you put the memory stick in the ps3 and it will update your hard drive and it should work. Fixxed several with the same problems that way. Hope this helps. If you need help finding the update just let me know.

PS3 asked for update, got to 99% and froze. now cannot even get to safe mode!? any clues?

Strange! Even if the update fails, you should be able to enter "Safe mode"Try going to PSN and downloading the update to a thumb drive via their instructions to do so. Remember that the different types of PS3's have slightly different functions. Like for the older systems(FAT) you have a switch to power the system, whereas the (SLIM) or (SUPER SLIM) do not. A key feature to remember when trying to go into safe mode, is to have your charger cord connected with the controller hooked up. It will not go into safe mode without it.

When I turn on my playstation 3 it says that it is restoring and then goes to a black screen, any ideas

I think that you may have a problem with either the system files or the HDD. Here are some steps to try before sending the PS3 Back in
First try:
1. Access safe mode with instructions from this link Safe Mode on PS3
2. From safe mode, click restore default settings.
3. If this doesn't work, go back to safe mode and click restore filesystem. If this doesn't work, go back and click the next option down. Stop at restore.
Second: (You will need some supplies)
1. Follow this until you get to the bold letters saying "Update Procedure"
PlayStation3 PC System Software Update Method PlayStation
2. Go back into safe mode and click "System Update"
3. Plug in your USB stick
IF ALL ELSE FAILS:
You need to replace the hard drive. Here are sony's official instructions:
Upgrade the Hard Disk Drive HDD
Make sure you use a PS3 compatible hard drive! (Listed in the above article)

PS3 slim doesn't read disks

Was the system "cracked" or "jailbroken"? If it was, then the system would have "bricked" (stopped working) and you'd be lucky if you got it to turn back on at all. Now it sounds like the same problem my slim had. Everything works fine in the system, except reading the disk. Unless it is under worranty, it is going to cost you for an out of warrenty repair. Exactly $105.00. BUT, there is good news in this, when they replaced and repaired mine, everything in it was brand new. So I basicaly had a new system. Well worth it.

Ps3 stuck in restoring default settings.

To fix this you can go into safe mode and do a couple things.
With the system switched off in the back, switch it back on and with the red light on, hold the power button until you hear one beep, then when you hear another beep let it go. It will now turn back off. Now holf the power button again , you will hear 1 beep, and then 2 quick beeps, then let it go. If done correctly, you will be in Safe Mode with 6 options (on some other models you will hear one beep, then another beep, then one more, that's when you release the button. Instead of 1 then the 2 beeps in quick succession).

Now that you are in Safe Mode select option 3 'Restore File System'. This will fix any hard drive a anomaly's.

Then try restoring it again. But just to let you know 'Restoring Default Settings' just is a fix for the XMB Menu screen (The Sony Menu screen when your PS3 turns on).
If that does not work try Option 5:
Restore PS3 System - IMPORTANT: All data will be lost by performing this step.
This will reformat the hard drive on the PLAYSTATION 3, deleting all data and restoring it to as if it just came out of the box. This is the same as [Restore PS3 system] on the XMB.
(I would try Option 5 from the beginning)

So to sum up how to get into Safe mode 'Direction-wise' from Sony:

1. Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, again for the PLAYSTATION 3 to power on.
2. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset.
3. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At that point release the Power button. If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on the screen saying, "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button."

But like I said, it varies from system to system on the beeps.

If none of this help you have 2 more possible options: Do a restore from a previos Backup and Do a Complete System Restore from that or Replace the hard Drive if that does not work. If your down to these last options it would seem to be a Hard Drive issue.

BTW, I wouldn't worry about your system being "messed up for good". The system has its own Flash Memory it restores from that reall y never corrupts. The only reason that would happen if you stopped in the middle of a firmware option or system downgrade.

Good Luck Buddy.

My ps3 slim has an error report saying that the hard disk has been corrupted. it tells me to restart and the hard disk will reformat. I have restarted 5 times now and it keeps giving me the same error. How...

Just as a guess, it sounds like the hard drive might be dead. If you have another 2.5" SATA hard drive, you could try it in your PS3. To swap out the hard drive, look at the bottom of the console, and right next to the warranty label, you'll see a little door that you can pull open with your fingernail. Open it, and you'll see a little blue screw. Just unscrew that, and put the screw somewhere for safe keeping. With the screw removed, you can now pull the hard drive out from the bottom right of the front of the console, unscrew it from its chassis, and place the new one in and put everything back together. Once you turn on your PS3, you should get the error again, but let it restart, and everything should be fine.

Hi i have a problem on my ps3 slim it shows cannot start the correct hard disk was not found can you please help me

Some possible solutions, from easiest to hardest:

-Unplug the PS3 from it's outlet, then replug it back in.

-Restore the PS3 to it's default settings by turning off the console, then pressing and holding the power button for around 10 seconds (it'll beep a few times).

-Remove the hard drive from the console, then put it back in. Here's a detailed guide, but basically you use a screwdriver to remove the bottom hard drive panel, then pull the metal handle to pop it out. You don't have to remove it from it's frame; once it pops out, just put it back in.

-Try the PS3 Safe Mode, options 2, 3, 4 and 5 (3 might delete data, 4 and 5 definitely will).

-Replace the hard drive. The PS3 uses standard 2.5inch SATA laptop/notebook hard drives (5400 or 7200 RPM). They can be found online at any computer parts website; for example, Tigerdirect.

-
Send the PS3 back to Sony. If you're under warranty it's free; otherwise it's expensive (150$ I believe). They take forever to send it back though.

Good luck!

Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console My PS3 hard disk is corrupted, It say to restore i put restore and nothing had been restored Bid

Corrupted hard disk? Lets see....

You could attempt to boot up the PS3 in safe mode and restore the file system (should delete any corrupted data). Describing how to start up your PS3 in safe mode would just be confusing, so instead here's a link to the official page on the PS3 Safe Mode feature.

Follow the instructions, and then I'd say try options 3 (Restore File System). If that doesn't work, try 4 or 5 (Rebuild Database or Restore PS3 System).

If that fails, you could just replace the hard drive. The PS3 uses standard 2.5inch SATA laptop/notebook hard drives (5400 or 7200 RPM). They can be found online at any computer parts website; for example, Tigerdirect.

If somehow the new hard drive doesn't fix it, or you don't feel like buying a new hard drive, you could send the PS3 back to Sony. If you're under warranty it's free; otherwise it's expensive (150$ I believe).

If you request the repair service, they send you a box, you put the PS3 in it and ship it back to them. A month or 2 later they send you a fixed/different PS3. Simple, but takes forever to get a working PS3 back which is why I suggest you try a new hard drive first.

Anyways, hope you get it working soon!

Ps3 says hard file disk corrupted and has to be restored but it just keeps doing this and has restored like 15 times and has not fixed itself. what can i do

1. Restore File System

Enter Safe Mode and select "Restore File System". "Restore File System" will attempt to repair damaged files on the hard drive. If this does not work, try the next step.

2. Rebuild Database

Enter Safe Mode and select "Rebuild Data Base". "Rebuild Data Base" will erase messages, playlists, changes made on [Information] screens, trimming information for pictures in [Photo], video thumbnails, video playback history and video resume information. Then attempt to rebuild the PlayStation 3 database. The content that is erased will not be recoverable. If this doesn't work, try the next step.

3. Restore PS3 System

Please note this will erase all content on the hard drive and will not be recoverable.

Enter Safe Mode and select "Restore PS3 System". "Restore PS3 System" will restore the default settings and will format the hard drive. If this doesn't work, try the next step.

4. Re-seat the hard drive

If you have replaced the hard drive in the PlayStation 3, make sure it was installed properly. If the hard drive is not seated correctly, it may cause problems.

5. Try another hard drive (if possible)

There may be an issue with the hard drive that is installed. Try replacing the hard drive with another one.
