Question about KitchenAid Blade Coffee Grinder by

KitchenAid coffee grinder

The ground coffee is spraying all over as it comes out rather than dropping into the cup below. Also it seems as if the ground coffee is magnetized in the way it sticks to the glass I put below to catch the grinds. In short it is making a huge mess... I have had the grinder for a few years and it just started doing this recently. We did clean the grinder this past weekend hoping that might help and it didn't. Any thoughts?

Apparently we must be the only two people on the planet with this problem. I have a Breville burr grinder that I received as a gift, and it magnetized the grounds directly out of the box. I am considering opening the casing up and grounding the motor through the plug. I would need to replace the 2-prong plug with a 3-prong plug. The casing is made of plastic and stainless steel, so they wouldn't need to ground the chassis, but if the electric current running through the motor or the burrs (attached to the motor) are the root cause then I would think that grounding the metal chassis of the motor through the plug/outlet should do the trick.

You need to clean it out every 3-4 days. I use a brush and pointed knife for the packed grounds. Mine works great now.

Grinder stalls constantly (motor whirring, but no grinding happening) so I shake it to get it grinding again, but the whirring/no grinding happens over and over. I have to shake the think 5 or 6 times to...

As I can see, what happens is that some coffee grains stucks in the way from the upper pot to the grinding wheel. This is not something usual, but possible if coffee grains are too big and are placed across the entry of the mill. Try cleaning more deep with some old toothbrush. Look for a clean and even surface of the duct.
Other cause might be a loosen mill hub/grinding wheel off the motor shaft, which would require dissassemble of the appliance to be repaired.

My cuisinart burr coffee grinder will not turn on

This model sometime gets plugged up with grounds.

Unplug the grinder, and remove the bin where the grounds go. Look inside the grinder part where the grounds come from the grinder into the bin. This should be clear, and you should be able to see part of the grinder wheel inside. If this is plugged up with grounds, then you'll want to clean it out, but it's possible that the motor has already burned out (we killed two of them last year at my office this way)

Pour out any whole beans that are in the top part. You can pour them in a bowl to save them, you don't have to throw them away.

Unscrew the top part until it detaches from the grinder. This will take 20 or more rotations -- just keep turning it counter-clockwise.

You'll want to do this next part over a sink or a counter that's easy to clean -- you're going to dump a lot of ground coffee.

Looking into the grinder from the top, you'll see the grinding wheel in the center, and packed coffee grounds around the edges. Use a plastic knife or bamboo skewer to clean out the ground coffee. Don't use a screwdriver, metal silverware, or anything metal, as this can damage the grinder housing. You also want to clean from the bin opening. When you're done cleaning, the grinder wheel should turn freely.

Reattach the top portion, put the bin back in place, and turn the grinder on. It should turn on and spin the grinder wheel. If it still doesn't, then your motor is burned out. :(

If it does turn, then put the coffee beans back in and enjoy a cup -o- joe!

Clogged?

I took the jar off and cleaned/scraped the port out(the square hole that the gounds come out of) then gently "bumped" the top and side of the unit on newspapers to get the accumulation of 40 years of stray grounds out and it runs great now!!

Grinder blades dull

I may be having the same problem. My coffee grinder has had more leftover beans in it more and more this week, until finally today, possibly a quarter teaspoon passed through to the filter basket and the remaining beans were still very much beans. My first assumption was the blades.
