Question about Jenn-Air Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

Two of my burners stopped lighting automatically, I have to use a match. I suspect our housecleaner may have scrubbed too hard and messed something up. What can I do and what should I do to avoid happening again?

It may be that your house cleaner got the igniters wet so give it a couple of days to dry thoroughly then you may have to get new igniter tips if the housekeeper did scrub too hard. If it turns out the igniters are the problem there is one on each burner point them out to your house keeper and tell her not to touch them at all. If it turns out not to be the igniters check the wiring and the spark module. Good Luck.

Whirlpool WFG361LVS2 oven. Broiler and burners ignite but oven will not. I can hear gas and the igniter sparks but will never light the oven.

get someone to hold a long gas match near the main burner when you try the oven . If it lights then I would suspect the igniter. even tho you can hear it snapping .

Stove burner will not light. I hear and see

There are two things I would recommend that you do . Check your burner mantle in the area where the igniter makes the spark for a small hole . It is a pilot hole specifically for the igniter . Sometimes it gets clogged with oil or grease. If that's OK, I would suspect you probably have a weak igniter control module , and you'll probably have to replace it .

Griddle burner wont spark

Make certain the burner and burner base are very clean by carefully washing in warm soapy water, using a plastic brush to scrub any residue off the surfaces. Also clean the spark ignition nub in this same way.

Stovetop not lighting

Get a small wire brush and scrub around the ignitor real good so that it can get a good ground.

what I have done in the past, if it is a caked on spill (mess!) I scrap it off with a very sharp razor blade! Hope this helps. Basic soft scrub cleanser works for the easier stuff.

Replace burner spark ignitor?

Electric igniters are usually very simple installs since they usually only come with a common and hot wire, and the igniter clips on to the burners right near the burner top for ignition. The easiest way a DIYer can do this themselves is to slowly take apart the current ignitor after lifting the top of the range up and taking note of every thing's placement. If you have the direct OEM part, then it either work or will not, based upon the fact that it's either the ignitor or the switch for it that has gone bad.

To test if your igniter has gone bad, remove it completely. (it should only be a small cylinder with two prongs, and two wires coming out the other side) Be sure not to strip any screws as heat from the oven will make them hard to remove. From there, you'll need to jump the connection on the top of the igniter with a conducting piece (ie: aluminum foil or wire), then test the common/hot wires with your circuit tester or volt meter. A solid tone or light means that your igniter is good, and the problem lies somewhere else.
