Then there is no reason, not to load cassette in camera mechanism.
Please check some thing obstructing the tape to be loaded as it seems some mechanical issue.

Hi there, My Sony DVCAM DSR-PDX10P is refusing to open its tape hatch. There is no tape inside, the large hatch (basically the side of the camera) will open and the internal carriage rises, but then...

This can be caused by several problems including a defective eject switch in the cameras internal circuitry, a bad motor or a faulty rotary mode switch and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be repaired qualified service technician.

PLEASE HELP! -- I have now bought 2 Sony DCR-TRV350's. One, I bought originally in 2003 and has worked like a charm up until a few months ago. I have a bunch of old tapes that I never got around to...

Found this post re: Sony C:31 errors
http://www.camerahacker.com/Forums/DisplayComments.php?file=Video%20Camera/Sony/Sony_DCR-TRV18_-_Error_Code.
In a nutshell: - Remove tape and close door - Remove all power supplies (battery and AC) - Smack the bottom of the camera hard with your palm - Reattach power supply, insert tape and try again
This solution has worked for me, but problem usually reappears after a few uses.

The tape carrage wont load the tapes but it will go into the load position without.

I have a sony cam myself. If the cam is empty, you open the outer door(swings out), and the load/unload mechanism rises up and pops open allowing tape insertion. When a cassette is placed into the mechanism, you press where it says "push" and then the drive pulls the tape down and into the unit. Then the outer door is closed and you're ready to tape. IF YOU PUSH DOWN ON THE TAPE WHILE IT'S BEING PULLED INTO THE UNIT IT WILL STRIP GEARS INSIDE. The gears are made of nylon to prevent serious damage to motors and other circuitry. This transport setup cannot be forced at all. If any type of mis-alignment occurs, the mechanism is supposed to stop and back up--allowing the problem to be corrected. If it is damaged, the cam must be repaired. There is critical timing involved in replacing the tape carriage.---Rick

Have a jvc camcorder turn on and it says safe mode remove battery

Forget the battery, the mini dv carrage assy can get out of sync and initiate the safe mode, if you noticed a problem loading the tape or have heard a gear skip sound thats the problem. The best you can do with those camcorders is keep the tape in the camcorder!!!!! That will prevent the problem and insure many good years of recording.

Sorry,

Tim.

Ugh...another problem

First clean the drum, use a soft head cleaning tape, that might not fix it though it seems like one of the posts is off if the cleaning tape doesnt work then it needs a simple alignment.

Tape will not retract

Sounds like the carrage is out of time with the deck. Either that or the mode switch (the switch that senses the location of all the gears on the deck) is in need of an internal cleaning. When the contact pads on the mode switch get a little corroded it will confuse the microprocessor that controls loading and it will not know where the gears really are. Good luck.
