How do I check the electric connection to Kenmore Elite drain pump

First, UNPLUG the washer before servicing. Remove the lower access panel directly below the washer door by locating and loosening the torx (7mm) screws under the bottom front of the panel. With the screws removed, the panel will drop down and come off.

NOTE: For better access the the screws, place a 2x4 or under the front two feet of the washer. This will raise the front slightly, so you can access under the lower panel.

With the panel removed, the drain pump motor is located directly in front. The motor electrical connection, consists of a small electrical plug. Remove the plug and check the pins at the MOTOR with a multimeter on the lowest resistance scale. A good motor winding reading is about 12.3 ohms. Anything higher, usually means the motor is shot and needs to be replaced. If the motor windings read normal, you need to trace your wiring from the motor to the Central Control Unit (CCU). This is the main computer of the washer (located directly behind the drum at the top of the washer. This can be accessed by locating and removing the screws in that hold the top panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off.

Check to make sure the wires are not broken or loose anywhere. Disconnect and reseat any connections to make sure you have good contact.

Generally, the pump motors fail on these washers and cause error codes. In the majority of the cases, the pump is either clogged, or the motor needs to be replaced. Remove the access cover on the pump housing to check for debris, or anything that could be caught in the pump impeller, preventing it from turning. Make sure you remove any residual water in the washer if you want to avoid a messy clean up. An easy way to do this is to remove the drain hose at the standpipe and pull a vacuum on the line with a wet/dry shop vac. This removes all the residual water in the tub and drain lines.

If replacement parts are required, I have had great luck with the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The first three sites also include helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying any parts you may need.

HELPFUL HINT:

You can save money by only purchasing the pump motor instead of the entire pump assembly. The motor comes off the pump housing by removing three screws. Make sure you install the rubber o-ring gasket to maintain a good seal. Apply a thin film of petroleum jelly on the o-ring as an added measure to get a good seal. The appliance websites generally only sell the pump as an ENTIRE assembly. However, I have found reputable sellers on Ebay, that sell just the motor. Do not buy anything USED as you cannot guarantee how long the motor will last.

If you need further assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

My code is E21 how do i fix this without paying for a service call. My warrenty ran out 3 weeks ago imagine that

E21 indicates a drain pump error or slow draining. If it is a clogged filter, you fix this yourself. (Standing water is usually still in the washer with this error.) Unfortunately, if it is something else, a service call may be needed.

Unplug the washer before starting the following procedure.
The first step is to check if your washer has a lower access panel. If it does, then remove the panel. Find the drain motor and the two hoses (drain and washer sump) that connect to it. Have a bucket ready to catch the water from the hoses. Since the hoses are connected by hose clamps you will need a set of pliers to loosen. Remove the hoses and let the water in them drain out. Check for any clogs and check the coin catcher filter (it's inside the main hose) for foreign objects. Remove the blockages. Then check for around and inside the pump (and the impellers) for any object and remove anything that doesn't belong.

If your washer doesn't have an access panel, you can get to the drain motor from the back, bottom or front of the washer. Pull off the panel (usually screws hold it in place) if you are accessing the unit from the front or back. If you go from the bottom, remove the storage drawer and pedestal if you have installed those. Then remove the bolts that hold the drain motor to the washer frame. Remove the wiring harness and the drain and sump hoses. The pump can then be removed and cleaned. Follow the directions above to check for clogs or foreign objects.

Then reassemble the washer (pump, drain motor, hoses, wiring). Replace the panel. Plug the unit back in and see if the unit will drain without the error. (Just try the drain/spin cycle and see if the unit spins rapidly. There is not reason to do a full wash.)

If you add a comment with your Frigidaire washer model number, I'll be glad to give more specific information for additional repair options.

Hi, I can't find my manuel and the one on line does not have troubleshooting. My washer will agitate but will not drain or spin. I can't figure out how to access the motor or belts without a schematic of...

If you can hear nothing in spin cycle, you likely have a faulty lid switch. This washer will not spin or drain if it thinks the lid is open. The front panel will come off if you remove the two screws near the bottom of the front panel. Once removed, the panel will pull down about 2" then pull off. I have included a link to the breakdown pictures to help in disassembling it.

Yesterday made a grinding noise and leaked water out on the floor from under unit.it still works

The noise would be indeed coming from the water pump.

To clean the pump on this top-loader you have to unplug it, pop the top open, and remove the front face of the cabinet to expose the motor and pump.

Slip off the two metal clips hugging the pump to the motor. Place a towel under the motor before detaching the hoses - there's a plastic drip pan between the pump and motor to guide the water away from the motor.

Unclamp the two hoses from the pump by squeezing their spring-clamps with pliers and sliding them further down the hose. Pull the hoses off by lifting the pump off its axle and pulling it out while wiggling the hoses loose. Check if anything jammed in the pump - it must have fallen to the outside of the basket but inside the drum during the last spin cycle, and went down the drain hose. Check the pump for damage and replace if necessary.

For future troubleshooting, remember that a clogged pump causes squealing, diminished spin speed, and slow drainage.

The first thing I would do is to inspect the inner tub. Empty your washer and carefully check all holes inside the inner tub and under the agitator for any foreign objects and remove if any.

If it's nothing there then you have to remove the front panel. Tape the lid to the top panel. Using a putty knife push in to release top panel clips on both sides. Lift up the top panel toward the back.

Remove the screws on top of the front panel on each side. Pull out the top of the front panel toward yourself for about 30 degrees and release it from the bottom clips. Now you have an access to inside the washer. Run the washer without the front panel and try to locate the sound. Let me know your findings.

I think a overloaded the washer and it wouldnt spin.

Frigidaire washer will not take a overloaded tub without causing belt problems.
Unplug the washer.
Remove the 2 screws on the very bottom of the front washer panel.
Slide the front panel down slightly and remove it from the cabinet.
Inspect the belt around the motor pulley and transmission.
If it is worn at all it needs replacing.
You could plug the washer back in and set it to Spin cycle and watch for the motor to turn and the belt slipping to verify a bad belt.
Keep your hands, fingers and tools away from all moving parts.

Maytag washer

sounds like you're suffering from the pump belt either stretched due to overload and overheating the belt, or the belt is off the pulley.
You can remove the front cover by removing two screws near the bottom of the front panel. Tip the bottom of the front panel outward and then disengage the upper clips as you pull forward. This exposes the pump, motor and you can reach underneath to the pulley and the belt. The motor spring holds the tension on the belt. If the belt is damaged, replace. Check the pump to make sure nothing got sucked inside... Maytag's pump are opaque plastic so you can see inside without removing the hoses... This is usually the reason for a tub that won't spin or drain... Good luck let me know.

Clogged washer pump

you have to take out the little motor that drains the water and clean it up , first you open the front panel or back panel depending of the model , second follow the DRAIN HOSE to where its attached to the DRAIN MOTOR , remove the motor for cleaning , its probably clogged.
