Question about Sony Vaio CD (pcga-acd51/a) External CD-ROM Drive

1 Answer

CD ROM ONLY READS CERTAIN DISCS

I've recently had to restore my PC to it's factory settings.

I'm having problems with my CD (F:) drive. It can read music discs or DVD's but not a Microsoft Office disc.

I've checked the MO disc on another machine & it's fine.

Any ideas?

How do i restore my hp pavilion dv 5000 to factort setting?

There should have been a recovery disk created or included when you bought a laptop. Insert disk if you have it and restart your computer with the recovery disk in the CD drive. Make sure all your documents and personal data are backed up. When the computer restarts it should start restoring your computer to the factory default. There will be a wizard to guide you through the process.
If there is no disk or got lost, then follow this steps:
1.Save any files or folders on your computer with flash drives. Drag and drop files onto the icon of your flash drive.
2.Go to "Start" > "Restart" to reboot your netbook.
3.Hold down "Alt" and "F10" when you see the logo on the screen. The recovery menu will load.
4.Hit "Enter" and then "Next" to see your recovery options. Choose "Factory Restore" to set your computer back to factory settings. Follow the instructions on the screen.
5.Choose your time zone and language when the customization menu appears. Reboot when you are prompted.
6.Restore your saved files from the flash drive.

hope this helps,Goodluck..pls response with your rate and testimonials below for further issues..thanks

I have a LG CRD-8484 B cd rom drive on an emac power pc 800 mhz, do you know if this device reads dvd or not at all?

A CD-Rom drive will not be able to read a DVD because DVD and CD drives use lasers of different wavelengths to read discs.

CD-Rom

Shut down PC & disconnect the wide flat data cable connecting the device to the motherboard. Boot the PC and do nothing. Shut down again and reconnect the cable as it was. If possible replace the old cable with a fresh one.

Re: Need to do a factory restore

Hello:

REcovery discs can do the task by restoring it to the factory setting. you can insert it directly to the DVD/CD ROM and then boot the pc to the ROM. and the follow the onscreen instruction.

however; if you have recovery disk then you have to provide windows installation disk and install it to the your hard drive.

installation of windows information is found here:

may this help you.

Unable to read a CD-R or other recordable disc. DVD recordable discs - If you have a DVD recordable disc and are unable to get it to read verify that the DVD drive is not a Gen 1 DVD drive and/or that it .

Computer DVD Support The DVD technology is very different from the technology used in standard CD-ROM drives. DVD uses shorter wavelength lasers to read smaller pits and lands.

Restore Cd

instead of holdingdown "C" while booting, just press F12 for boot options, and choose cd rom.
You must be a Mac person?
Try that, or just enter bios and set the boot order to make cd rom before the hard drive. Whichever you're more familiar with.
Hope it helps, good luck

Dvr-106d -Windows freezes, cant read new Dvds

if you have had two drives with the same problem i would check the ide cable and swap to another one if you have a master and slave twin connector ide cable, or even try the dvd rom on the same ide cable as the hard drive as you know that that ide connector and cable is working, unless you have a SATA hard drive in which case you won't be able to; but will still have a spare ide channel connector to try the drive on.
