SOURCE: D-Link DIR 655 - DHCP server but no internet

This usually happens when the router has timed out trying to grab an IP address from your modem.

I suggest unplugging your router and modem, waiting 1 minute, plugging in your modem, wait 1 minute, plug in your router, wait 1 minute, then try to connect again.

If this solution has helped you, please take the time to rate me.

If you get the error all the time, goto your network card properties and in the space where you can enter a DNS address, just enter 4.2.2.2 and teh primary DNS and 4.2.2.3 as the secondary DNS. These are universal DNS addresses.

My ip adress is gone of laptop how do i fix it

Normally IP Address is assigned by your router which then also provides gateway and dns settings. On the IP address screen, select Obtain automatically for both IP and DNS.

If this does not solve your problem, please explain fully what the problem is.

Hi there i have the dir-815 router and im having trouble with my ipods not my laptop. do you know whats wrong ?

You may have to set a static IP adress in your ipod. you can find the proper settings to use by looking at the Wireless connection status on your laptop. It will show you the current IP address, and weather is is static, or DHCP. In your ipod, tell it first to forget this network, then set it up by hand. make up an adress, such as 192.168.1.138 (the last three digits can be changed from anywhere between 2 and 255, but must not MATCH any other device. They must all be different.)
Dlink routers default to 192.168.0.1, so you may need to use a 0 rather than a 1 there.
The subnet should be 255.255.255.0
and the default gateway and DNS should both be the IP of your router. (default is 192.168.0.1)
This should get you up and running no problem!

No ip adress

Hi,
First, at the command prompt type ipconfig /flushdns. This will purge the dns cache, then type ipconfig /registerdns. This will refresh your DHCP lease and re-register any DNS names.

After trying the ipconfig /registerdns command, wait for about 15 minutes, then check your status and see it your issue is resolved.

If not, try reinstalling your NIC drivers.
Let us know if you need further clarification.

Have you used the automatic settings for the two different connection types (wired and wireless)? You should only need to enter this information if you want to use DNS servers other than the ones provided by your ISP.

when using a static IP you must also get the DNS server addresses from your router's manufacturer. the primary/secondary DNS for D-Link routers are 4.2.2.2/4.2.2.3 respectively. contact the customer support line of your product or do a Google search for"_______ dns" (____ being your product name)
