Question about Grex Headless Pinner P635 Nailer

1 Answer

Driver on my Grex P635 does not seem to be returning to the ready position

No pins were being driven. I dismantled the nose of the Pinner and the driver blade was down. I pushed it back up, reassembled the nose and it fired about a half dozen opins before the problem recurred.

The tool fires but no pin is driven. The driver seems to stay in the down position.

You have an "O" ring seal leaking is my guess, take it apart and replace all the seals, any Auto parts store that is full service (not Autozone) will have an assortment of "O" rings so you can match them up. Use Silicone grease when installing the seals.

Grex Headless Pinner P635: Nail keep jamming. Any solutions??

By all reports, this is an excellent pinner.

This is an excellent product. When used it at 90 psi with the 1 3/8" pins there should be no issues with putting pins through shoe molding, corner molding, pinning crown miters, etc.

NOTE: The specially designed nail channel is designed to prevent jamming

However, there is a minor that I've experienced: it is difficult to load a new clip of pins when there are a few still left on the old clip. The spring mechanism pushes the two clips together pretty hard when you close the magazine, and the ends of the clips can get doubled up, jamming the magazine.

I don't know of any fix for this problem, so I recommend that you only refill it when it is completely empty.

If you've never used a pinner before, you should keep in mind that it is NOT going to replace your finish nailer.

I trust that this was helpful.

Sounds like the recoil is jammed. Take it apart & clean it up. Look for damaged seals.

When using n60 nailer, one nail goes all the way in, but the next nail only goes halfway in and the some don't go in at all. Don't know what's wrong.

Worn orings in gun and the trigger valve can/will cause problems as you describe. Remove the nails and leave open the latch. Lighty tap the nose of the gun against coiled rubber hose. The driver/piston should stay in the top position (if the driver is down or comes down after test, replace driver oring). Now push the nose against the rubber hose and activate/hold trigger, while holding the trigger/gun in this position, the driver will /should stay down under pressure. At this point no air should leak out of the nose of the gun. If air leaks out of the nose, examine the lower bumper for cracks ( replace as needed ). Finally remove the trigger and examine the firing valve pin. If it has a plastic pin, looks worn and wobbles from side to side, most likely needs to be replaced. If however it has a metal pin and it seems to fit snugly, do not change unless it is leaking air. Good luck

I have the 2 1/2 Hitachi for nailing siding. The nail gun had not been used for a couple of years, but now will only drive the nail half way in. Sounds like an air leak when driving the nail. I have...

Remove the nails and air supply. With side door open notice position of driver. Driver should be at top position with tip not visible. If driver is down and it moves within cylinder when you tilt nose up then down again, time to replace orings. If driver is down, it should extend past the nose about 1/4 inch (if driver is broken at the tip the end will look rough and nail will not drive in all the way). If driver extends past the nose more than 1/4 inch then lower bumper may be breaking up /cracked. Easy test for proper function. With nails removed and side door open, connect air to gun and dry fire gun against hard rubber or old coiled air-hose (with air connected and trigger depressed, no air should leak from trigger area, if air leaks when trigger is depressed, look for fault at trigger pin). Feeder should move back then forward in quick motion almost matching speed of driver and driver should not creep down between shots. No air should leak from nose of the gun (push nose against hard rubber and depress trigger and hold in this position, driver should stay down with very little or no air leaking out of nose, when you release trigger, driver will return). If air leaks out of nose while holding in this position, replace lower bumper. If a quantity of air leaks from valve in front of trigger, cylinder orings may need replacing or outer part of cylinder has fine scratches (remove scratches with 400 grit paper). Parts are available at www.toolpartsdirect.com. Good lucki

Staple jams by driver blade in gun and I have to dismantle nose to get it out. Empire Rainco 7-16.

The problem is wear on the sides of the driver blade. With the constant up/down movement of the driver against either side of the nose plate, it eventually narrows enough to allow part of the fine wire 71 series staple to find it's way between the driver blade and the inside wall of the nose plate. A new driver blade cures this completely. Rainco tackers have become a bit rare but the good news is, they're actually manufactured by Fasco and the Fasco driver fits into the Rainco piston by the removal of a single pin to allow the old blade out, replace with the new Fasco blade, re-insert the pin into the piston, then re-assemble the gun and you're away.

Campbell Hausfeld NS2190MVRB 21 Degree Round Head Framing Nailer is jammed. How do I clear it?

Remove any nails in the magazine, and you can carefully take a pin pinch of a size that fits into the nose (where the nails come out). Try to carefully tap the driver back into the gun. This will sometimes clear the jambed nail. If the driver is severely jambed you will have to dismantle the entire unit to separate the driver from the nose of the nailer.
