Hi'

Normally dust gets caught up in the fan you can try blowing it out to free the dust or the bearings are getting worn and the fan needs to be replaced.

You can by silent fans for desk top pcs as well.

cheers

Testimonial: "Thanks for your quick response Aries. I have been cleaning the fans as regular maintenance. I can't replace the fan because of the age of the computer. On the phone for two hours w/HP before they gave me that little tidbit of info. I called my technician to see what he may suggest. He built the tower to my specifications in 2008. Other than this fan issue the computer is fine."

Hi its so true fans can drive you crazy, ive had a few early model desk tops that bring back some memories lol, if your pc is built in an original hp case you will only need to change the case and motherboard everything else you can swap over then you can put any fan in you want and upgrade the cpu ram hard drive video card etc. cheers

Final Solution: I took the fan out of the case and lightly sprayed the bearings with WD40. Worked like a charm.

Try to turn the modem off, if the noise on the line disapears when the modem its off you need to contact you service provider in the INTERNET deparment regarding the noise on your line.

I think I have noise issue on my cable line, so my new Motorola modem does not connect. I have the Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme Broadband Cable Modem Can I add a noise filter inline to get...

Has your cable provider "provisioned" the new modem. Some cable providers require you to call them and let them know you have a new modem. The cable provider then registers the modem's MAC address with its servers so that it is seen as a legitimate connection (this is done to prevent someone tapping into your cable to get free interenet).

If your modem has been provisioned, then try disconnecting all other connections to the cable service to see if the noise problem goes away ( you can log into your modem 192.168.100.1 and look at the signal, the critical item you're looking at is the signal to noise ratio - it should be above 30). Add back the connections one at a time to see what it changing the SNR. Also, if you have a lot of splitters or even have an amplifier in line with your cable and the modem, this could be causing problems if it is not the type that allows return signals or is not in the proper frequency range. A noise filter will not fix these problems, the noise source itself must be eliminated.

The fan in modem makes loud noises at times

Modems don't have fans.
I think you mean your fan in the computer makes a loud noise. Some computers have settings where the fan speeds up if you are doing a lot of things--making the computer work harder.
Some fans make noise just before they fail. Depends on the type of noise. If it's a sound that has a lot of rattling in it or maybe a high screeching sound, I'm thinking you'll be needing a new fan. Probably a CPU fan is the culprit. Also, fans on video cards often go bad--so you'll have to open the case and listen to where the sound comes from.
