Question about GE Refrigerators
Freezer and Fridge not cooling, just the fan inside the freezer top part and the fan at the lower back are running. Compressor is not running at any temperature setting. No clicking sound to indicate compressor motor is running. How can I verify the status of this motor. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like your Defrost heater is burned up. It is located in the back of the freezer compartment behind the lower cover. Look at the base of the condensor. Two screws hold the heater and two wire connectors. The heater is in a glass tube. Measure continuity from one end to the other, you should see a few ohms. if it is open, your heater is definitely burned. I got a good deal on a replacement heater on Ebay. I think it was $17 including shipping. The heater being bad will cause major frost buildup in the back of the freezer and stop the Ice maker from working and damage food. Be sure to thorougly dry the freezer compartment prior to putting it back in operation. If too much moisture is present, the new heater will evaporate the moisture into the Ice dispensoer motor and solenoid that swtiches from crushed to solid ice. Hope this helps. it has nothing to do with your problem, but please Check out my website www.playstationclinic.com

you may try hard restart by shuting the fridge off and unplugging it from the wall . plug in back in and after 5 min turn it back on . close both doors and wait one hour . check the temp. if the unit still will not respond calll the local woranty amana repairman only. hope this helps you

this refig has 2 independent temp controls one that operates the freezer side (this one also operates compressor, condenser fan and evporator fan) and one that controls the temp for the fresh food side this one operates a damper and evaporator motor.
I looked up you model number and you need to check the control that is located to the left side of the control panel or the freezer control. if it is 60f in the unit then if this control is good it should read infinity on a ohms meter. if its bad you will get no reading at all. alternatley you may try hitting the control solidly with the **** of a screwdriver sometimes the contact will hange open. message me back if you need further assistance. peyton...
