so, if i understand this..when i can run it again, the lever going to the gov. should move? if it don't something is broke inside? (no linkage or springs are broke now) i had it apart, put it back, ran it did same runs fast at low setting but steady, but normally that setting would be putt-putt speed.....could gov. be broke? inside? what would i look for? is new to me! appreciate yer help!

be careful, if the engine over revs it may just explode. These engines are very picky if over sped and easily blow up.
Your problem may be a broken throttle control rod, have look at that first. If the control rods are fine and in place it could be the fly wheel governor is worn out.

Well, I am not convinced the gasket could cause you this grief. I suggest to remove the metal sheet cover that covers the carb and assembly and then observe the linkage in operation. You want to see some 'regulating' action which maintains the RPM. If the linkage gets stuck or there is a problem with the governor assembly slipping, you may get over speeding.

    Have a look here:

Tecumseh engine snowblower, will only run if I keep pushing the primer bulb, Why?

Take off the screw that holds the carburetor bowl on and clean the holes with a needle and blow air through them. These holes feed gas from thr bowl into the carb and may be clogged.

Looking for a carburetor for a yard machines mtd

You may have better luck in identifying the engine type and manufacture (Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh, etc) and get the number of the engine vs the machine itself, if possible. If you are able to do this, you can search ebay or the net for a wider range of possibilities for a purchase.
