Will 2 different memory modules work together on dimension 2400??

I was wondering, for my dell dimension 2400:

since there are two memory connectors both supporting max of 512 RAM:

If i put memory module A with memory module B, will my desktop PC work? and will there be a total of 1GB RAM??Will there be any problems??

Memory A: 512MB DDR SDRAM PC2100 (266 MHz)
Memory B: 512MB DDR SDRAM PC2700 (333MHz)

Before you spend the money to buy the memory, make sure you can take it back if it does not work. Many motherboards will work perfectly if you mix memory speeds. Others (mostly brand name computers or cheap (I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU ECS, YOU SCUMBAGS) motherboards) will work sometimes or not at all.

So if you have several pieces of memory laying around that will fit, go ahead and try them. But if you're thinking of spending some money, hoping that it will work I don't think I would do it unless you can take the memory back if it does not work for you.

The memory modules required for 512 Mb configuration is Pc3200 400MHZ for your computer .

You can check the same on the dell website at the link below

Hi, thats the specification for older RAM modules. The newer 512s have the PC3200 configuration.

You can use the RAMs you have the computer , would work on the slow RAM system ie 266 MHZ ( 333mhz RAM would step down to 266MHZ)

    Thanks

It will work, but not optimal for a good performance. Always choose memories with same ratings for best results

Will a NVIDIA GeForce gt 610 graphics processor work on a Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop

YES, Zian it will work....BUT,....................

1) It is a PCI graphics card, and uses a PCI expansion slot.

The Dell Dimension 2400 Desktop PC's motherboard, has three long white PCI slots,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conventional_PCI

If one of those long white PCI slots is open, you can use a PCI graphics card.

Concerned that the graphics card uses DDR3 graphics memory, and your computer only uses DDR Sdram ram memory?

Don't be.

The graphics card has it's own processor (Graphics Processing Unit), and graphics memory.
It runs independent of the system resources; the Processor and Ram Memory.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPU

The concern is the Power Supply.
Original power supply's maximum rated Wattage is either 200 Watts, or 250 Watts.

The above graphics card requires a minimum system requirement/power supply requirement; of 300 Watts.

I would recommend replacing the Power Supply.
(Especially with it's age, if it is still the same one)

ONE thing though..............
Watch the 20-pin ATX main power cable connector, and the wires in it. Be sure they are in the standard place setup.

Check the pinout, and color code of the wires,

1) Dell Dimension 2400 desktop computer, 20-pin ATX main power cable connector pinout,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim2400/en/sm_en/techov.htm#1105612

2) STANDARD 20-pin ATX main cable connector pinout, and color code of wires; as set by JEDEC,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atxmain20

[Be aware that the ATX main power cable, and connector, you get with a new power supply; such as the above, will have a 20 =4-pin ATX main power cable connector,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atxmain20plus4

Use the 20-pin connector, tie the 4-pin power cable up out of the way]

For a time period Dell was making the motherboard's main power cable connector - Proprietary.
Meaning they has that motherboard connector wire pinout changed.
Colors of wires were in a different place, than the standard setup by JEDEC.

Orange wires are 3.3 Volts (DC)
Red wires are 5 Volts (DC)
Yellow wires are 12 Volts (DC)
Black wires are Ground wires.

Guess what happens if a 12 Volt Yellow wire, is plugged into where a Black Ground wire is supposed to be?

ZZZZZZzzzzt! Motherboard fries, processor fries, ram memory fries, and graphics card. (If used)

Check the color code of the wires, in the 20-pin ATX main power cable's CONNECTOR, for the Dimension 2400's power supply.

Tried to upgrade dell dimension 2400 256 memory cards.

If you do not see any activity and no beeps then the memory module could either be not seated right or was damaged by static. Or you could have knocked something loose (nah that never happens ;-])

To boot and generate a beep code the motherboard needs to see the first 64k of ram. So you can be sure that the problem or part of it will be the #1 memory module. So take it out and reseat it, and then try again. If nothing then swap it's position with the other module and see if that works.

Look around the case and then reseat any connectors. You may need to pull them off and then push them back on to be sure. The heat cycles from the boards running can cause them to work loose and then they just need a bump or a brush to disconnect. On some cases you can do the same just by picking it up by the corners. The case twists and pop.

If nothing is out and it still won;t work your other option is to start swapping parts into the other case to verify they are working.

New ram memory on dell dimension celeron trying to

You should check with the folks at Dell since whoever wrote their technical manuals for this machine can't do basic math. There are 2 memory slots and each can handle a maximum capacity of 512MB, yet they claim the maximum capacity for the machine is 2GB instead of 1GB. Using 512MB modules would probably work.

Will All-In-Wonder 9600 4x-8x AGP card work in a standard PCI slot? I have an older Dell Dimension 2400 that does not seem to have an AGP slot - only standard PCI slots.

No AGP and PCI interfaces do not interchange.

AGP is always at the top of the PCI slots, and is shorter (Blue one in this pic)

Memory chips for Dell Dimension 2400

per the crucial memoryadvisor (It has never failed me yet) Yes the system will support 2 1 GB RAM modules.

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Dimension%202400%20Series

That being said, it is advised that you flash the bios to the most current BIOS version to ensure that capability.

Added a memory stick to my Dell 2400 Desktop computer and the monitor, mouse, & keyboard won't work

Hi

The supported Memory types for Dimension 2400 Series is PC2100 (266-MHz) or PC2700 (333-MHz) DDR SDRAM (non-ECC). Supported Memory capacities are 128, 256, or 512MB and a Max if 1GB (1024MB).

The first obvious question is does the new 512MB Memory module meet the above specification? Some Memory modules are able to steep down speed.

If it does, then first ensure the new memory module is properly installed. Take ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge) precautions or you may damage the new memory module and/or the system board.

To proceed compare the system beeps and diagnostics lights color and sequence to the Advanced Troubleshooting guide.

It is possible that the new memory is DOA (Dead On Arrival). Or there is a new fault on the system. If you have access to another compatible system, you may test the new and old memory modules. You may also swap the new and old memory modules to determine if the memory slot is at fault.

Lastly, if you remove the new memory module, does the system complete POST (Power On Self Test)?. If it does you may indeed have a DOA or incompatible part.

Memory detected/Memory failure on Dell Dimension PC

So basically the computer does not start. Because I am not sure that is what you are saying.

I think from my understanding it is an issue with vista rather than with the computer. Somehow the new driver has put your computer in sleep mode. The computer of friend of mine starts by itself.

Another I want to say that the memory cards are fragile they can go bad. The way you touch them it is important.
