Hi gymowner. I have a prob you may be able to help with. I have a Vaio model VGN-FJ1S that works OK with a mouse but the Touchpad is very erratic, probably works after start-up only once in ten attempts. Any help would be great.

Re: Sony Vaio Touchpad Frozen
Sounds like the Touchpad has gone bad. Call sony and find out if it is covered under warrenty. If so you can have them replace it for you. If it is not, a touch pad is very cheap and very eay to install. Touchpads and mouse buttons are known for problems with that model.

Please follow the steps to disable the Touchpad under XP environment:
First, click the Start button, then click VAIO Support Central . In the VAIO Support Central window, in the left pane , click System Maintenance . In the right pane , click VAIO Central . In the VAIO Central window, click the System Information tab. On the System Information tab, click the Plus symbol next to Keyboard and Mouse . Under Keyboard and Mouse , double-click Built-in Pointing Device . In the Built-in Pointing Device window, click to clear the Enable box. Click the OK button. In the Built-in Pointing Device dialog box, click the Yes button.
Your touch pad software may not be installed. Goto Sony's device driver support page and download the mouse drivers for your model. Sony has good software support. You'll find the touchpad program easy. Reload and see where that puts you.
Could be the mouse lock key. I am unsure as to which key it is on yours. Mine is the F9 key. it will have a picture of 2 mouse on , 1 with a no go sign over it (circle with a diagonal line through) try pressing the "fn" key and F9 and see if this unlocks the cursor.
