SOURCE: Installed New RAM in laptop. Led works but screen is blank.

Welcome to the wonderful world of laptop ram

There are many different makes and configurations of Ram and unless the replacements are exactly like the ones that are in the machine all bets are off.

If it says Samsung on the original chips then you need to source a Samsung replacement.

You cannot just buy "Ram" from anywhere and have it work, you may get lucky but !!

go to and type in the details of your machine they will tell you what is compatible and more important what your motherboard is capable of running.

If you search using your own machine then their diagnostic tool will check you machine out and give you a report

They are a brilliant company who have never let me down yet

SOURCE: Bought a HP Pavilion 17

When you say it shuts down, does it simply turn off straight away? If so I would say it has a faulty power connection. If it goes through the whole 'Windows is shutting down' processes then it maybe the motherboard which is faulty. Either way it sounds like quite a serious issue.

Bought a HP Pavilion 17'' P8600 6GB 500GB nVIDIA GIGABIT LAPTOP. When I start it up after a few minutes it shuts down. this is when power lead is plugged in and also when it is unplugged. Does this model...

Sounds Like Video Failure...
If you were Gaming On THat Laptop, You Probably Overstressed The Graphics Chip/GPU..

Other things that would cause the shut downs would be, Incorrect or Faulty AC Adapter, Make sure you use a 19.5v 90Watt.. Not the 65 Watt..

Failing or Bad Ram, Misseated RAM... Open port to RAM on underside of laptop, Pull The RAM and reseat it..

Make sure Hard Drive (s) are securely seated..

My Hp Pavillion laptop dv2214tu doesnot boot beyond the HP INVENT logo page. I tried performing the Primary Hard Disk check as stated on the HP Support site but its not happening.I also reseated the RAM...

Unscrew your Laptop HardDrive bay and remove your harddisk first, then try to boot your system wthout the Harddisk inside. If it Boots past the HP Invent Logo Page, then your harddisk is the one that is faulty, if still doesnt, get another good, working RAM, apart from the one in your system, and use it to test your laptop...making sure that the harddisk is still not inside...then if it boots insert your Harddisk back with the new RAM, and restart your system.
If in the first case it boots (i.e wihout the harddisk inside)...then it means your harddrive is faulty, just retrieve your file on it and get a new one.
If in the second case it works (i.e with a new external RAM) then just change your RAM instead.

Just tried running restore and now have blue screen

Compaq are a bit fussy with RAM and usually don't like mixed RAM - brand, speed, & sometimes size.
You model may not support more than 2GB, check the specs..
Try inserting a single 2Gb RAM to see if it works.
If it dosen't work and the laptop won't support more than 2Gb, you may need to install two 1Gb RAM modules.

Buying a laptop

I wasn't aware they still put mobile Pentium 4 processors in laptops. If you can, you should get an Intel Core Duo or Core 2 Duo.

Other than that, the specs look pretty good. You might want to upgrade to 2GB of RAM though if your computer is going to be running Windows Vista.
