MATCH OLD TRANSDUCER TO NEW DEPTH SOUNDER

TRYING TO INSTALL A NEW HUMMINBIRD HDR 650 DEPTH SOUNDER THAT NORMALLY USES A XNT-9-20 STERN MOUNT TRANSDUCER. BUT I HAVE AN EXISTING XTH-3-16 THROUGH HULL TRANSDUCER THAT I WANT TO USE IF POSSIBLE INSTEAD OF THE XNT-9-20 STERN MOUNT TRANSDUCER. BOTH TRANSDUCERS ARE 200KHZ BUT THE THROUGH HULL IS A 16 DEGREE AND THE STERN MOUNT IS A 20 DEGREE. HOWEVER, THIS DEPTH SOUNDER ONLY GIVES A DIGITAL DEPTH READING... NO PICTURE REPRESENTATION OF DEPTH SO I THINK IT WILL WORK. PROBLEM: THE EXISTING THROUGH HULL TRANSDUCER HAS AN INNER STRANDED WIRE COVERED BY A PLASTIC COVER. THIS INNER WIRE IS THEN COMPLETELY WRAPPED WITH A SECOND WIRE. AND THIS SECOND WIRE IS THEN COVERED BY THE FINAL EXTERIOR PLASTIC COATING. SO I HAVE TWO WIRES TO DEAL WITH ON THE EXISTING TRANSDUCER. HOWEVER, I NEED TO MATCH THESE UP TO THE WIRES ON THE NEW UNIT WHICH HAS A RED WIRE, A BLACK WIRE, AND A COMPLETELY BARE STRANDED WIRE, ALL THREE OF WHICH ARE COVERED BY THE EXTERIOR PLASTIC COATING. ANYBODY KNOW WHICH EXISTING WIRE GOES TO WHICH WIRE IN THE NEW UNIT??? HUMMINBIRD SAYS IT WON'T WORK... CAN WE PROVE THEM WRONG AND MAKE IT WORK? THANKS!

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: I am replacing a Eagle Intellimap gps and eagle

Hi, Charlie!
I checked it out, and it turns out you can use the transducer of off your old 128 model.
Just unplug it from your current model, and plug it back into your EFE 480.

What I like about these newer fish finders is the fact that it also has gps built in to it, along with the maps for all of the USA, and the fact that it has a memory card slot, so that you can download new maps onto a memory card, pop it into the machine, and then it will update the maps !

Sure beats the old days where you had to send the unit in to a tech to have them install map updates.

Som yes, you can use the old one, and it should work with no problems.

Good luck to ya, and catch a big one for me !

Why does my transducer not get a return when its deeper than 150 mts?how much amps does it need to operate in deep water?

Normally a new clean faced 1 KW thru-hull transducer works to 3,000 feet ( 914 meters).
Maybe the impedance of the transducer and electronics driving it do not match.
Connecting cable too long?
Poor connections. Look at plug pins to see if any are bent.

Hi I live in NZ and have a Humminbird 383c GPS Chartplottter which was purchased in the US. approx 2 years ago.It has a transom mounted transducer which I mounted in a piece of plastic pipe, epoxied in the...

Don,

We would recommend that you replace the transducer (if you want to keep the transducer inside the hull you may use the
XP 9 20 T with temperature and you can use epoxy to mount the transducer) If you want to keep in the compartment you have created you may want to just put water in the compartment with the transducer so its not shooting through the air.

If you have any other questions please email customer service at service@humminbird.com

Thank you,

Hi. Just wondering how should the transducer for my humminbird 525 fish finder/sounder be installed correctly? Thanks

You can take a picture of the transom of your boat and email it to Humminbird and they will email it back to you where the transducer should be mounted at. Our email address is service@humminbird.com.

I want to see the schematic diagram of humminbird fish finder transducer, my fishfinder won't operate. if i plug another unit of transducer, the my fishfinder operates normally.

Hi Greg and Ernesto:
Re-stating the obvious, your transducer is not working but you know that the sounder is.
I would start by checking to see if your transducer works on a different sounder. That's just a double check to confirm that it really is not working.
Then I'd try to isolate the problem:
- Plug (couold be corroded or damaged)
- wire (could be broken)
- Transducer (could be defective)
Since these are sealed units, I'd be checking with the supplier to try to find a replacement. Hopefully they are not too expensive, and time spent fishing is better than trying to maybe save a few dollars, especially if you're taking out charters.
Best of luck.

My unit, a 365i combo, uses the same transducer, I experienced the exact same problem last week, my unit is still under warranty, I sent the unit for repair and just got confirmation that my transducer went bad. The bad news is that the transducer is back order and has been for many weeks, this is an indication of probably a weak design. I have read similar reports on other forums.

Good luck

383c transducer gives nothing but noisy red feedback at medium or high speeds

If it works at low speeds fine but has problems at higher speeds, basically you need to lower the transducer down further as it is lifted by the boat at higher speeds, or is getting caught in the turbulence of surface water created at higher speed. Lower the transducer a half inch at a time and re-test.

Depth Sounder does not display depth

I will see if I can get mine off the hull for testing. Still have found no procedure. Thinking about just replacing the sounder with another unit.
