Hotpoint FFA45W Fridge Freezer not restarting after defrost

I switched off to clean. After cleaning it will not restart. the display shows "off" for both fridge and freezer. When on button is pressed, the usual "on display" flashes on for about 1 second, and then it reverts to the off position. I have tried waiting for a day in case water got in somewhere. I wondered whether the motor protection delay might not be kicking in. The compressor does not start no matter how long I wait. I also notices a small nick in the outer wire leading to the electronics in the front door, but the underlying wires appear intact (and I also cannot see that the cleaning would have budged anything in this area). This is otherwise a perfectly OK appliance and it seems a pity to discard. It may also be of relevance that I simply switched it off at the wall without pressing "off" first. without Any help much appreciated.

Hotpoint FFA47X fridge/freezer. I have had this fridge for 3 years now and has always on regular occasions decided to defrost when it feels like it and asks me to consume all the food immediately! I have wasted massive amounts of money on food and calls to hotpoint and have had a hotpoint engineer out to sort the problem about a year ago. It goes fine for a few months..then it defrosts all over again! Its just done it again, luckily I am not using the freezer anymore it only had some peas in there. Has anyone had this problem and solved it?? I would really like to use my freezer again but am loosing patience with hotpoint! I'd be very grateful for some advice.

SOURCE: fitting an integrated fridge freezer!

Hi Gareth. I fitted a door to my Hotpoint hsz2321L today. I used self tapping screws through the brackets into the fridge door sides. Looking at the old fridge that came out showed that this was the method used previously. No seal is broken and so the fridge is working perfectly. I do have an issue re-fitting the door onto the new fridge though. The pivot hinge on my fridge doesnt give enough clearance and so it catches on the unit at the side of it. The old fridge (a Bosch) cad cabinet hinges that would sort of concertina out to give clearence. Anyway, good luck.

Hotpoint mistral fridge freezer flashing EE. I don't know what it means. Both fridge and freezer still seem to be working.Do you know what needs to be done?

It's probably timed out on defrost, take everything out (borrow a neighbours or friends freezer and transfer food) switch off, do a thorough manual defrost and check all pipes etc are clean and clear, (and if you are able clean and vacuum around the back while it's off to get rid of all the dust on cooling coils)
it'll prob be ok after that.

Motor runs, freezer defrosting and fridge won't cool

If you have frozen coil at the back of the freezer section, then the defrost thermostat is usually failing. Allow the fridge to defrost completely overnight. If the fridge restarts cooling immediately after defrost, then the problem was the defrost system. In that case the fridge will stop cooling again in a couple of days, as soon as the evaporator coils restart freezing and the condenser goes under stress with the whole cooling system loosing efficiency.

Is the back wall full of frost? If so you have a defrost problem, most likely the defrost is stuck in the run mode. this is located above the controls area in the fridge.

I have a hotpoint frost free fridge freezer, the fridge has stopped working, ive tried cleaning behind the front panel but its still the same.

sounds like a defrost problem try turning it off and leave it off to allow time for ice to melt (about 2-3 hours)then restart if it gets cold again in the fridge its definately a timer or heater problem

Westinghouse side by side fridge is warm but freezer seems alright, checked and found evaporator freezing up not allowing airflow into fridge? Note cleaned all dust from Condensor and still same, fridge...

Locate the defrost timer, turn the clutch head screw until you hear one click. This will actuate the defrost system. After 18-22 minutes the defrost should should have taken place and the compressor should restart. If the compressor does not restart after the time period the timer is at fault and needs to be replaced. Turn the clutch head screw to the second click and the compressor will restart. If defrost does not take place the problem is in the defrost heater circuit. Possibly bad heater or defrost termination switch.

You are probably frozen up which causes the fan to freeze up. Thoroughly defrost the unit...if necessary, stop it for a day or more until all the ice melts. Restart. Cut down on 'window shopping', storing uncovered liquids. Check the door gaskets, clean if necessary or replace.

Sounds like frosting up. Defrost completely...that can take 2 days. Restart. Also, clean the condenser. Check door gaskets, clean and replace as necessary. Don't keep door open longer than necessary.
