Open Question

My 1978 Push Victa 2 stroke lawn mower keeps changing its revs whilst engine is running. The speed won't stay constant.

I have replaced the decompression valve which was broken. I have replaced the air filter with a new one. The spark plug looks okay. I have cleaned out the fuel tank and replaced it with new 2 stroke fuel, and it runs erratically up and down revs all the time.

Hi Every 2 stoke engine needs three things to run:Fuel+oil/air mixture in correct proportions,compression and ignition.Remove the sparkplug and see if the spark appears when the piston in the cilinder is at top death point(almoust),if not check the flyweel key(not to be sheared).Check engine"s sealing(crankcase gasket,cilinder gasket,seals-crankshaft,carb gasket).Also the mufller(not to be clogged),disassembly the carb (check and clean it),fuel lines and fuel filter (check and clean them),gas cap tank vent(not to be clogged),the air filter.Please let me know. best regards savumihai71

I always replace the air filter if its a paper element, and even if its a foam element I replace it rather than clean it. That said, engine stumbling is rarely and air flow problem - but it could be, so having a new filter assures no air restrictions.

I would drop the carbuerator bowl. On the bottom of the carb, near where the fuel line comes into the engine, should be a nut. Removing this nut allows the bowl to drop off the carb. Some engines the bowl screws off, you will have to look at the bowl. Often the bowl has sediment or sludge buildup inside. Cleaning the bottom of the bowl can prevent that sludge/sediment from plugging the intake tube. Even on newer mower models this is a common problem, the gas line tubing interior breaks down and the inside of the tubing can start degrading - ending up in the bowl as sludge.

After cleaning the bowl, I would add one ounce of fuel line cleaner to a full tank of fuel and run the entire tank of fuel. This will clean any deposits or "varnish" from the interior carb parts. Doing this and the first step will assure your carb is clean and functioning.

If that doesn't help, then I would look at the spacing between the magneto and coil assembly. If you want to do that I'd like you to write down all the model numbers and serial numbers on the engine nameplate, that way I can give you specific directions.

Hi if it is older than 2 years it will need a new diaphram and gasket under carby you will also need to clean out the fuel bowl in the top of the tank this should fix your problem.

Victa carburetor problems


Why you have a car carburetor fitted to a mower troubles me... I think you'll find you don't gain any power increases by having such a large carbie on there, if anything you'll simply flood the engine with air or fuel and will have great difficulty maintaining a stoichiometric ratio.

The fact that the motor will only run on choke indicated that it is getting too much air without choke, and not enough fuel. This would be due to the intake size being still too large and probably a restriction in the venturi flow near the jets causing lack of suction to draw fuel from the bowl which would be due to the mower engine not creating the same vacuum as a car engine.

My honest suggestion?
Put a Victa carbie back on it, it's probably not going to work...
If you want it to run harder, adjust the throttle assembly to rev harder, or change the governor position.

My Victa push lawn mower won't shut off. Throttle cable pulls back but won't push forward and springs underneath housing seem extremely loose. What do I need to repair/replace?


Sounds like the inner throttle cable is binding with the outer casing,
This coule be caused by dust and moisture causing rust on the inner cable. I would firstly try to get a light spray lubricant into the outer casing .
I would disconnect it from the throttle lever and spray lubricant onto the inner cable and progressively work the throttle lever to draw the fluid into the outer case. Elevate the lower end so gravity will assist you.

Victa 2 stroke if I push throttle forward engine cuts out, runs well at low rev.


i would check that the main jet in the carb is clean and if it is check that your exhaust port is not getting pluged with carbon.one thing I would try first is replace spark plug if the plug is bad when the engine goes under load the plug will short out.

Stupid question I know but is it 4 strock or 2 strock oil for a victa 450 148cc


If there is a place for motor oil on the engine, its a 4 stroke, and use 10w-30. If not, use a 40:1 mixture (gas to 2-stroke oil ratio). Not a stupid question... only stupid if you didn't ask, and did the wrong thing without asking first! Hope this helps!

Victa 2 stroke 125cc lawn mower will start and run, but won't rev. Muffler in base plate model. WHat can I try to get it to rev?


You probably have a blockage in the fuel system. Check the jets and passages in the carb and clean them out thoroughly. If I remember correctly, there was a mixture control screw on the carb as well, this might need adjustment.

Victa 2 stroke starts OK then stops


After much mucking about, discovered that the washer on the fuel cap is missing. When the fuel cap is tightened it seals the fuel tank. Eventually the motor is starved.
It then starts and runs for progressively shorter periods.

Victa 2 stroke mower will not start


It may have a blown crankcase seal. How did you check the plug for spark?
you can remove the carbi and spray 2 stroke fuel directly into the chamber and try to start it.
If it starts you have a problem with the carbi or the fuel supply.
Take out the air filter as it may be blocked and restricting the air supply.
The float in the carbi may be full of fuel due to a hole in it or the fine fuel filter in the carbi may be blocked
