By backup Blu-ray my guess is in BDMV folder, right? All supported video formats of Windows Media Center are listed in here, but no BDMV folder included. So you have to convert it to a supported format like .wmv, .avi, etc, and Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper I have used for couple of years may give you some help and they have a brief guide page to assist you.

Sounds like your goose is cooked. Probably mechanical damage to drive internals. There's places you can send it to that can do some things beyond what you can do at home, but they're really, really expensive.

My cpu often stops because of kernel_data_impage_error who can explain why?, coud it be a hard disk problem

Yes this is definitely a hard disk drive problem. If you have previously done a backup of your system when it still worked, you could try to format the hard drive and attempt a new installation, after removing all partitions. But replacing the drive could solve the issue once and for all.

If zcomputerwiz solutions don't work, then remove the disk from the chassis, and install it into any desktop PC. It should show up as a regular harddisk, and you will be able to access your data. I have successfully done this with my WD MyBook Extreme Edition that had stopped being recognized by my desktop and laptop. Now its a regular drive in my desktop PC without the use of any special savior software. Good Fixin!!!

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

This problem happens quite a bit with Windows Vista. It seems that Windows Vista puts a hidden file in the backup; which locks the device.

Open the external device (Windows 7 is fine). Click on "view hidden folders and files." Delete any hidden files you may have in the external.

Go back to "my computer" and right click on the external hard drive letter. Choose properties and security tab. Make your user-name as a main user (administrator) and disable the read only.

Reboot the computer and see if this works.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sync software/empty folder/ slow backup/

hello frustrated one,

the back up feature is application dependent, not hardware dependent, misfortunately. Gotta love sales guys.

my understanding is that these will back up data files, not application files.

backup speed is dependent on how it's connected. in ascending order.

USB 2.0

simple situation..just need to know what your connecting with.

Also, you may want to consider an online backup utility, as well. I use one from here

Maxstor shared Storage II 500GB

Try mapping that drive as a network share under windows XP. This is done from "MY Computer" Map network drive. The set up your backups to back up the network drive you have created. If that does not do it then there is a contention between vista and xp as to the owner of the drive. Making the drive a mapped network drive should resolve this as neither should have ownership. Thats my best quess without knowing in detail your network setup.
