Hi,
firts of all you need at least 2 Gig of memory in your computer, and have you got Service pack 1 installed, click on start on bottom of task barm then control panel, then system, and up the top it will tell you what edition of windows vista you are using, also I would recommend doing defrag regular, also when you have your web browser open on the bar it will display toolsm click on it, and open internet options and delete browsing history as that also helps, but the 2 main factors here are memory, and defrag that will affect system performance, I would also download Firefox as that is a far better browser then Internet Explorer, as well as faster!

I hope this solve helpps you out?

WHY DOES WINDOWS 8.1 RUN SLOW?

Windows 8.1 can be sped up a number of ways. Here are a few...
1. One of the biggest speedups can come by giving your computer more memory (ram). I recommend at least 2gb of ram. If your machine has less than 2gb, research if/how you can give it more. I often use 4allmemory.com to find ram, but you may have a local store or computer shoppe that can help.
2. Uninstall any unnecessay programs that you do not use. Research on the web first to be sure the program is not needed for your machine.
2. Set visual effects for best performance - Press Win+R keys together, and type sysdm.cpl. Go to Advanced, then Settings in the Performance section. Select "Adjust for best performance", apply the change, and close the window.
Good luck.

My laptop is very slow

Hello there,
When a laptop tends to be performing very slow. There are different factors that could be contributing to the problem. It acting sluggishly tends to be quite annoying, frustrating, time consuming and not encouraging to use.
The cause could be from the RAM size, the RAM is what determines the speed of the laptop, if it is large, it will perform faster but if it is low, it will perform very slowly. RAM can be upgraded, and that involves you turning the laptop to the back and unscrewing it open, you will see a processor connected to the mother board, that is the RAM, check the size and try to replace it with a larger RAM.
Also, if there is a virus on the system, it can contribute to making the IBM perform slowly. Try to install AVG anti-virus free edition 2011 on the system. That will help you eraze the corrupted file and protectyour laptopfrom being exposed to any virus of any kind.
Ensure you are not running on windows vista or windows 7, try to ensure you are running on windows XP, as the IBMs mother board will act sluggishly if windows vista or windows 7 is the current operating system.
Be sure not to have too many load on the hard disc also. Try to ensure you are using an external hard disc for the laptop to save large files. As saving too many applications and folders on the hrd disc can make the laptop act very slow.
Would be glad to know if this information washelpful to you. All the best. Elect_Comp

When playing music of cds or dvds or on internet he sound seems to be a bit fuzzy or slows down

Try using external speakers first. this will tell you if the laptop speakers (never the best) are failing. If you get clear sound on externals, this is the problem.
If you still get the problem, then the issue is with the sound chip or a damaged sound driver
Try downloading the latest sound driver for the laptop and OS, if that fails, you may need to look at getting an external sound card.

The only other thing that springs to mind here, and notably if you get the problem whilst on the internet, is that the RAM in the laptop is being stretched, if you are using Vista or Windows 7 and have less then 1GB, I'd consider installing more ram and then fragmenting the hard drive / deleting garbage files to give the laptop some "fighting room" to run applications

you can upgrade up to 2GB (DDR2)
Your computer has 1 memory slot you remove the memory and install a new one.
you can use either

My problem is that my laptop is too slow. OS Home Vista Basic. Memory was upgraded to 1GB. Now I want to upgrade the memory. Can this model be upgraded to 4GB. this means I will install two 2gb. Thanks.

I would suggest you not to install 4GB RAM on windows, keepp it to 2GB.
Use MAC or Linux instead, they have a performance also.
If you want to use 4GB RAM then you will have to switch to 64bit Windows, you should not use 4GB or moree on 32-bit Windows OS.

HP Pavilion DV2000 running very slowly

Yes! I would not recommend anything below 2GB at minimum. I have one laptop with 2GB and one with 3GB: they both open programs and browse the internet very quickly. Even with just two programs open (Internet Explorer and Outlook 2007) it uses 1.1GB of memory.

Definitely upgrade your memory. I recommend this site:
http://www.4allmemory.com/

Just pick your model and they recommend the memory to pruchase. TIP: order with next day shipping - it's only $10. The free shipping takes 14 days. So unless you're patient (I'm not) the $10 many be worth it.

Acer Aspire 5315

I have a friend who has an Acer Aspire 5315 running Vista and it was pretty slow right out of the box with 1gb of ram. I upgraded his Ram to 2gb and it ran moderatly faster and smoother. Vista is a demanding OS because it's so graphical in nature. Windows Vista requires more ram then XP plus a better CPU to run smoothly. His had a 1.6ghz Celeron which is not that great of a CPU to begin with but uping your ram will usually up your performance a few degrees. Be careful with cheap ram it can run hot and unstable. Make sure go with a name brand PNY, Corsair, Kingston, etc. Don't just buy House ram (generic) because it's cheap. It's not worth wasting your money on junk ram.

Hope this helps. M~
