SOURCE: Bobbin thread breaks

Make sure your bobbin thread is turning clockwise as it sits in the bobbin case. There is a screw on the outside of the bobbin case you can turn with your thumb slightly to adjust tension. If you dangle the case from the thread and give it a light ****, it should move down slightly when doing so-an indicator of good bobbin tension.

SOURCE: Singer 4623 bobbin thread won't catch

Hi! Did you by chance, change your needle? If so, make sure you have the flat side of the needle shaft facing the correct direction. If the needle isn't in all the way or the flat side of the shaft facing the right way, the bobbin thread won't pick up.

Let me know if this helps, ok?

Happy Sewing!

Try a different stitching. Then if it works with a different stitch, then switch back to the stitch that you were using.

SOURCE: Elna 2007 sewing machine breaking upper thread in

Is your top thread tension on 1? this sounds way too loose, should be 4 or 5.
This is a horizontal top loading bobbin machine isn't it like the Janomes?

Do you have a manual for it? It sounds to me like the top thread is too loose and as it is pulled down and around the rotary hook there is no tension on it to pull it back up through the fabric and form a stitch which is then causing it to jam. Then once youve gots bits of thread in there, its just jamming and jamming. Cleaning out the bobbin holder as you described is good, you may need to do it again and ensure all bits of thread are out of it.

I think you need to revist all the threading up and ensure that the top thread is under tension, try number 5. Also check that bobbin is correctly wound nice and smoothly, then loaded into the bobbin holder correctly so that the thread is coming off the bobbin spool in the right direction, ie thread needs to come off the bobbin, then reverse direction in a "v" shape, usually in the direction of the back of the free arm. And that the thread has been clicked into the tension spring fully, put the thread into the slot of the tension device and press down on it with your finger tip until you hear it click into tension.

Also double check the take up lever, if the thread has slipped out of this, it will jam up for sure.

If you don't have any manual for this then try www.sewusa.com, there is good troubleshooting tips and threading diagrams for lots of makes and models.

Hope this helps you, persever, its most likely threading/tension issues and can be overcome with the right settings.

Tension on upper thread not right, thread keeps snapping

Most likely, your tension is too tight. First thing, unthread the machine. RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. The standard initial tension setting is the midway point between high & low number, HOWEVER, that will probably need to be tweaked as machines vary.

The tension is correct when upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric. If the thread continues to break, then there may be a snag somewhere that is catching the thread and breaking it. Also, check that the thread notch on the spool is not catching the thread. Be sure your needle is compatible with the thread, ie the thread is too thick for the needle eye.

I have a Janome 1600P and the top thread keeos breaking

There are several common reasons for upper thread breakage.

Check that the needle/thread/fabric are compatible.
All About Needles

Remove the upper thread from the machine, install a brand new needle, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot, and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct. Set the upper tension to the midway point.

Is the tension too tight? Are the tension discs clean? Remove bobbin case, clean it and re-thread as this may be jammed.

Check the upper tension discs for lint: Raise the presser foot to open up the discs and blow or 'floss' between them. Any lint or thread in there will prevent them from giving the proper tension.
Good luck!

try changing needles-flat side to the back of the machine
check for any burrs around the needle plate area
check to make sure the tension is not to tight
check to make sure the bobbin is wound correctly & inserted correctly in the bobbin case

My needle thread keeps breaking. I've tried different thread (top and bobbin), a new needle, and I opened up the bottom plate to clean out lint. I have also tried adjusting the thread tension.

Are you sure you have got the top thread threaded correctly including the take up lever? Start at the thread spool and follow the thread all the way through the thread path checking that it is not snagging on anything enroute and that the thread is correctly through the tension device. Also tension dial should be on 4-5, if its higher this could be breaking the thread. YOu should not need to adjust top thread tension more than a half increment at any time.

Other possibility is that the bobbin holder under the needle plate has moved out of alignment and then the top thread is catching there as it goes around the hook.

If you check your manual it should give you instructions on removing the needle plate (2 screws need to come out), then you can lift the bobbin case out towards you, clean underneath with your little brush, then reinsert it. There are two little red marks on the right side of the bobbin case and a stopper, these need to be lined up. Then put in bobbin and rethread into tension spring, replace needle plate, bobbin cover, and test stitch.

Hopefully one of the above is causing the thread to break.

Janome jd 1822 when i'm doing zig zag, the thread is missing stitches and also my threads keep breaking

rethread the machine getting every thread guide
check the thread tension 3 or 4 is usually good
Change needle--make sure the flat side is toward the back of the machine & that it's insert as high as it will go--make sure the needle bar is raised to it's highest position
Clean under needle plate where feed dogs are for lint
Clean bobbin area for lint or loose threads
Rethread machine top thread make sure to get every thread guide
& bobbin that the bobbin is wound correctly & put into the bobbin case or shuttle correctly

here a tip about needle & thread compatability
Cut 6-8 inch piece of thread of the spool you are going to use for your project
Take the needle you are going to use for the project
& insert the thread thru the eye of the needle
& lift one end of the thread to a 45 degree angle
& if the needle is the right size for the thread it will slide down the thread
But if the needle hangs on the thread you need one size larger needle for the thread
