Question about Sony Bravia KDL40HX800 40 in. LCD 3D HDTV
One faint vertical band on the left of picture and dark portion to the left of picture; sound and rest of picture OK.
That sounds like a defective LCD panel tab connection. Does it go away if you tap the left side of the set? Or does it clear up when the set warms up?

Most likely this is caused by a defective main board. Changing the main board will fix the issue about 95% of the time.
To be absolutely sure, the voltages need to be checked on the power supply. If they are not the values listed in the service manual, then you should replace the power supply instead (accounts for the other 5% of the time).

That symptom may cause by the main board or t-con board, I suggest you do software up grade first.
