Question about RCA M4208 MP3 Player

1 Answer

After a firmware update my RCA M4208RD-B won't work.

I followed the firmware update directions, but now all I get is a blue screen. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have been working on it for hours now and am at a complete loss.
Thanks.

I had the same problem. After updating the firmware, the player seems to shut off and/or my computer fails to recognize it. I tried installing from the pop up as well as from their site. I received a message during installation indicating that "an error occurred while trying to rename a file in the destination directory. "MoveFile failed; Code 5. Access is denied" a file in the After uninstalling and reinstalling, I have encountered different problems, but have yet to actually load or play a song.

Download the firmware again.
after its download get the firmware you just download and install that one. Make sure mp3 player is hooked to your pc.
Go to add hardware.
Have windows look for MTP device. while the firmware is installing.
after its installed leave it hooked to pc for about 1 hour to give it a little charge. You should see a new folder Opal.
Let me know if that helped

Firmware for my rca opal m4208rd

This is a very common problem with the RCA Opal.
You need to goto the RCA website and download the latest firmware.
http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/product.aspx?product=408
Download the firmware from there. Plug in your mp3 player. (don't worry if it cant be found bye the PC it will when the firmware installs)
After the mp3 player is plugged into the usb device of your pc install the newly downloaded firmware. And it should work fine.

My RCA M4208RD-B still not detected by the PC even though I downloaded the firmware v1.7.20 for RCA M4204 MP3 player. Now I cannot turn it on because the battery is dead and I don't know how to recharge...

RCA M4208

Make sure the lock switch on the back is in the unlocked position. For the player to say "Loading," especially the first time you plug it into the computer, is normal - your computer is communicating with the player, installing drivers, and trying to load the Easy Rip Software. If it stays on loading past 10 minutes, however, something is not right. If you have selected to open the device automatically using Windows Media Player, you are headed for trouble, especially if you have more music and other files on your computer than the mp3 player can handle. If you have accidentally done this, disable auto-sync in Windows Media Player.
If you have checked the above, and you are still having problems, disconnect the mp3 player from the computer. Hold in the power button for 10 seconds or more to reset the mp3 player. Try plugging the mp3 player into the computer again. If it stays on loading for more than 10 minutes, unplug the mp3 player, go into the settings menu and change the mode from MSC to MTP or vice versa. If it still misbehaves when you replug the mp3 player into the computer, download the latest Easy Rip software from RCA's website and update your player's firmware - take note of the section they have on Windows Vista if you have Windows Vista. Good luck!

I'm still having problems with my RCA M4208RD-B MP3 player

You can get a starter kit which has a charger that you plug in that solves the power issue. Once you get it charged try checking to see if your computer is set to automatically detect new hardware. Also did you get a chance to install easy rip or did that not work either. another thing you can try is to open Windows Media Player when the player is pluged in and see if WMP picks it up, if it does then you can add songs that way.

My RCA M4208RD-B not detect the PC and need firmware updater

This link below is for the EasyRip Installer software itself.

This link is for the firmware updater for EasyRip software.

See if this helps any. It appears that there are various problems with these players & it takes some "finess" to get them working properly. Even after the above software & updates, I am still banging my head on the wall. Good luck!!!

Turn your player on and go to settings. Scroll down the menu until you see "PROTOCOL" and switch it from MSC to MTP. Your computer will now recognize your device, and you will be able to add whatever you want to it.

How do I reset my RCA Opal 8GB mp3?

Not sure what to do about the "not turning on" part, but I have a solution to my problem which was the same as a few other people.

I called 800-878-5779 option #5 (which is their customer service phone number that apparently doesn't appear in any of the materials that were in my package, or in any convenient place on their website).

I have a M4208RD-B which was stuck on "initilizing" and not being recognized by my computer.
According to the customer service folks, I needed a firmware update which seems only to be available through a magical email that they sent to me. The email also contains instructions on how to upload the firmware through a series of timed button pushes.

Here are the instructions included in my email:

M42- Initializing problem or not powering on:
Download firmware upgrade included in this email
Hold play/pause button for 15 seconds
Hold menu button for 10 seconds
Attach M4204 via USB cable while holding play/pause button
This should start the firmware upgrade
Possible an error message of “cant write to disk” will pop up
Firmware upgrade will end with error do not close
Go to My Computer find the drive that holds the MP3 player
Right click scroll down to format, format the player
Run firmware upgrade again

The firmware that they sent me in the email was v 1.7.2.0, which is not listed under the Opal 4208 on the website. It is under the 4204 player on the website.
As you can see in the above email that they sent to me, I got the firmware update for the 4204. I would think that the update on the website is the same as the one that they sent me in the email, but I'm not 100% sure. To be 100% you could just call the 800 number and get your own email.

Hope this helps.
