PC doens't boot up HELP!

Hi AMD athlon won't boot

My Asus motherboard will not boot. I have A AMD Athlon processor and 128MB . The problem is nothing appears on the screen when I turn it on. I have checked the graphics card and concluded that is not the problem. It has to be the moterboard or CPU. When I turn the Computer on it gives power to everything, but nothing happens.

There are a few things you can try, the trouble shooting doesnt necessarily have to follow in this order. Best thing I can suggest is try re-seating the processor, and if that is the only stick of RAM you are using see if you can find another to test with. If it still doesnt work after either of those, you might have to try a different processor. Granted, this is if you have those parts on hand. If you still are unable to even get a POST beep, then I would also try snatching the CMOS battery, unpluging it and then hitting the powerbutton reset the CMOS to default settings. If it still doesnt work after you get back then there, then I would snatch every removable piece of hardware from the board down to just the processor/heatsink/fan, memory, and PSU. If you get a POST beep after that, then try adding one piece of hardware at a time until you find the problem piece. If it still doesnt work then there is a pretty good chance that the board is dead.

I honestly cannot say with 100% certainty without being there; however if you went through all the steps that I gave, there is a good likelihood that the board is fried. If you was not able to test with a different processor and memory there is a possibility that it could be either of those. I guess just try turning it on with nothing but the processor and fan attached and not anything else. If you still don't hear a POST beep, then take a close look at the processor. Sometimes with the AMD's when they overheat you can see some scorching on the chip itself (although I have only seen two in about eight years). If it looks clean, odds are higher that the board is fried. I have seen some fried chips over the years but there is a much greater likelihood that it is the board. As bad as it sounds all I could really suggest at this point is that if all else has failed, check newegg.com for a new board, possibably processor combo. I always hate replacing parts when I have no test parts to test with to be certian but options are narrowing as to what it can be at this point.

Will a AMD Athlon 64 processor work in a Compaq Presario SR1050NX Desktop? My old processor Died and I purchased one of these off of Ebay, now just want to make sure it will work...

No Donnie, the motherboard for the Compaq Presario SR1050NX won't support an AMD Athlon 64 processor.

The reason why is;
A) The Processor socket on the SR1050NX's motherboard is a Socket A. (Also known as Socket 462)

Hp Support > Compaq Presario SR1050NX > Specifications > Motherboard Specifications >

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00072236&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=405454

CPU = Central Processing Unit. Another term used is Microprocessor, or Processor for short.
Look to the right of the CPU heading:
Socket A (Processor socket)

This is the Socket A processor socket used on your motherboard,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_A

You can click on the photo of the Socket A processor socket, to the upper Right, to enlarge.

The AMD Athlon 64 line of processors came out after the Socket A, and used the Socket 939 first.
Then on to the Socket AM2.
(Socket 940 for some models)

Hello,

Thanks for using fixya.

My name is Carlo.

Your computer might not pass the system requirements that's why it has an error. Or, you can try installing it one more time and check if it will work. Computers do mess up sometimes.

Here's the system requirement of SIMS 3:

Desktop PC (Windows XP + SP2):
CPU: 2ghz Pentium4 Processor or Amd Athlon 2000+ Processor
RAM: 1 GB of RAM
GPU: 128mb Video Card (GeForce FX 5900 or Radeon 9500)

Desktop PC (Windows Vista + SP1):
CPU: 2ghz Pentium4 Processor or Amd Athlon 2400+ Processor
RAM: 1.5 GB of RAM
GPU: 128mb Video Card (GeForce FX 5900 or Radeon 9500)

Laptop (Windows XP + SP2):
CPU: 2ghz Pentium4 Processor or Amd Athlon 2000+ Processor
RAM: 1.5 GB of RAM
GPU: 128mb Video Card (GeForce Go 6200 or Radeon 9600)

Laptop (Windows Vista + SP1):
CPU: 2ghz Pentium4 Processor or Amd Athlon 2400+ Processor
RAM: 2 GB of RAM
GPU: 128mb Video Card (GeForce Go 6200 or Radeon 9600)

IF your computer does not pass the system requirement, then you cannot play sims3 in your computer.

I hope this helps. Thank you for using fixya

Please leave your comment and ratings. Thanks
