Question about Linksys WRH54G Wireless Router

1 Answer

Hi, I have a linksys WRH54G model. For the last couple of days, whenever I connect my laptop using wireless connection, the router shuts down and restarts after several seconds. I can use the router without problem using wired connection. I am sure there is no hardware issue, the power connection etc appears to be proper. What may be the problem?

The first thing I would try is checking the firmware on the router. You can do this by interfacing with the router from a hardwired computer. The router should have a link on its interface (through your internet browser ex. internet explorer) asking to check for a firmware update. Run the utility from the router. Once it is complete, check to see if you can surf the net. I suggest using www.foxnews.com or www.bbc.com so you are sure you are pulling up a fresh page as they are dated. Also you can check the following link for information reguarding the firmware avalible for your router:

http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1175238795209&packedargs=sku%3D1175238794052&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=9520994052B03&displaypage=download

If you are not sure how to interface with your router, update the question and I can give you step by step instructions.

If you do perform a firmware update and the system keeps bumping when you try to connect wirelessly, check for other networks that show up on your laptop. If you see a lot, interface with your router and change the frequency to something on the high end or the low end. If it continues, then there is possibility that the radio in the router is malfunctioning and you will have to replace the router. Now my personal disclaimer: anytime you flash the firmware on anything you run the risk of killing the system perminately. Although it is VERY rare since the companies have done a good job making these fairly fail safe, it does happen. In my 8 years of experience I have never had this happen to me when updating a router, however there is a possibility.

Hi, i have a problem in lynksis WRH54G. I have changed my network service provider a few days ago, starting that day i couldn't use my lynksis wireless router anymore. it looks like it's working properly...

You need to reconfigure your WAN settings of router to your new internet service provider settings.
Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router.
Click on WAN settings in general setup and set as your service provider settings. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. . Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

Hi! I can't connect to the internet wirelessly using a WRH54G. connection status is "limited or no..." when on dynamic IP. status says connected when a static ip is assigned. tried pinging the router and I...

"Limited or no conenctivity" means that the network key(security password) that you typed when connecting to the wireless network is incorrect. Try connecting the laptop to the router using an ethernet cable to check whether you can get online. Access your router's setup page to check your network key.

How to access the router's setup page :
1. Using a wired computer, pull up internet explorer or any browser.
2. On the address bar, type in 192.168.1.1 (default IP)then press enter. It will then ask you for a username and password. If you havent changed the settings, username should be left blank and the password is admin.
3. On the black bar on top of the setup page, click on the Wireless Tab. Then on the purple bar, click on Wireless Security.
4. On the Wireless Security page, you will then be able to check your network key.
