Question about Belkin (F5D7230-4) Router (587009)
Hey I have searched the message board and no luck. Here is a summary of my problem and the steps I have tried.
I recieved a hand me down wireless router and so far after 1 day of cussing and throwing things I can not get it to work. Please help!!!
I am running Windows Vista as my OS. I checked every website known to man and they assured me the router was compatible.
I started off by downloading the EZ set up software from the Belkin support website. I was able to run it but then I got to the part of the program where it would scan my CPU and then i would get an error stating that the drivers for the device could not be loaded and from there the EZ setup would stop responding.
So I searched the web and saw that I can access the routers internel setup menu and moved on to actually connecting my router up to the internet and the CPU and accessing the routers Internal setup options manually. I connected my cable modem to my router and my CPU to my router and got all green lights across the board (power, wireless,Internet, and modem, and port #1 since that is the port I have my CPU hardwired to) and I was still unable to access the router setup options. Even with all the green lights i am still unable to access the internet via the wireless router on my CPU nor am I able to access the router setup screen by typing in the IP address in the internet explorer address bar. I tried the "default" address 192.168.2 that was suggested on some of the other posts on here and nothing, I even tried running a ping test to see if the router was assigned to some other IP address by following the steps below and i get the following message 'Ping request could not find host www.yahoo.com. Please check the name and try again".
- - 4) Click "start" and then click "run." (On Vista, click "start")
- - 5) Type "CMD" (without the quotes) into the RUN window. (On Vista, type CMD where it says "start search.") Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
- - 6) You should now have a window open with a black background. Type "ping -r 1 www.yahoo.com" (without the quotes) and press the Enter key on your keyboard.
I am about at my wits end. Plese help if you can. Thank you.
Hi! My name is Steve Medley and I saw your request for Live Chat fly by twice before I could even begin to read the entire post.
The default IP address was incorrect -missing a digit, should be entered in the RUN field, and be in this format http://xxx.xxx.xx.x
Command Prompt in Vista should be started with right clicking and "Run as administrator" as elevation will be required.
