Question about Hotpoint RGB745 Gas Kitchen Range

Open Question

Oven does not maintain temperature while cooking. Oven will come on and preheat as it should but then temperature drops while cooking and remains below preheat value. Every 15 minutes or so we set the temperature to 5 degrees higher and wait for the preheat just to keep it going. The self clean function and broil work OK. I have changed both the thermocouple and the control board.

I eventually replaced the oven ignitor. That has solved the problem.

I have a hotpoint gas oven the will preheat , but not maintain temperature

That pretty much sounds like a weak igniter thats causing your troubles, while the igniter first comes on to preheat the oven its seems to be ok,yet once it has been on for a while the igniter is getting weak and not allowing the gas to flow properly once its hot. By replacing the igniter the oven will maintain tempature.

The oven preheats, but then "cools down" before I

Most likely the problem is your bake element. When the oven is preheating it uses both the bake and the broil element. When it's done preheating it uses only the bake element, so the broil element is heating it up, and since the bake element is not working the temperature drops until it starts preheating again.

The oven does not maintain the heat displayed. If I put cupcakes into the oven, or rolls, to bake at 350degrees, they are still not done after an hour and a half. The temperature displayed is what I have...

This sound like you have a faulty thermostat module. The digital temperature display is giving you a false reading. Your best bet is to purchse an in oven thermometer that will give you a more exact reading until the thermostat is replaced. Good luck and happy cooking.

Oven won't heat up

Hi. This sounds like a weak igniter, the symptoms usually are: burner won't light, or takes longer than normal to ignite the burner, may or may not smell gas in the oven, does not maintain set temperature or burner does not come on fully. On gas ovens, a glo igniter is like a light bulb, the more you cook, the faster it wears out. Bottom line, needs to be replaced. Good luck.

biggest issue with any gas oven is a faulty ignitor, not maintaining oven temp, too long to preheat, taking too long to cook, possible slight gas smell during operation, all signs of a bad ( or going bad) ignitor
