Question about Goodman GDS81155CNA Open Flame Mid-Size Heater

1 Answer

Main Fan won't turn off even with thermostat removed. Burner not

My Goodman furnace is less than 3 years old. Occasionally, not always, but now with increased frequency, My furnace will fail ignition and go into the one hour sit and reset mode. The exhaust fan comes on, ignition stick starts glowing, I here a click, then the glow stick goes out. The furnace will not fire. After three attempts, it goes into lockout state for one hour.

The red light goes blinks 6 times and the main fan is always running with no burner fireup.

Thanks
Eric

There is a chart with the wiring diagram and othere charts that will tell you what the 6 blinks are for. That should tell you what is wrong and what part you need. Sounds to me like the board has an issue or the gas valve is locked out.

check your inducer motor fan safety switch mounted on inducer motor assembly (checks for fan pressure to prove inducer operation before power to gas valve)

I would guess that the fan off setting on your limit is set a little to high. If you have the manual you can see what it says about changing the running time for the fan after the burner has shut off look on the control board and you should see two switches, one to set the time for burners to fire before main blower starts and one to set time for fan to run after burners shut off. To help with the problem you are describing set fan run time up so fan wii run longer. Hope this helps. Thaks.

It sounds like you got a tough one there. When you say the blower starts up and then the igniter comes on are you refering to induced draft motor or main blower. The proper sequence is for the thermostat to call for heat at which point the induced draft motor should come on and run for 30-45 seconds, then the igniter should heat up for a few seconds then gas valve should open and main burner should light. After limit switch reaches set point for fan on ,blower should come on till after heat has reached thermostat setting then burner should go out, and blower run until fan off setting is reached on limit switch. If your furnace is not following this sequence and then not always doing the same thing in the same order,I would recommend that you change out board again. I have had several problems similar to this with Goodman units and all but one time installing new board solved it. That time I did everything I knew to do and talked to factory service techs repeatedly and finally installed new furnace. As far as your question about insulation,. As long as it is fire proof I can't see where it would hurt anything. Sorry I'm not more help. Good luck and thanks.

Blower stays on

You have popped a fuse on the circuit board on your unit. You will have to unplug your unit, remove the doors (panels) and look in there and find the fuse, pull it and replace it with the same kind. It will be either a 3 amp or 5 amp

it sounds like the low temp limit switch, the one that cools the furnace down with the burner off and the thermostat open, when it cools to a point the fan stops, the other switch in burner area turns burner off/on, hope this helps

I have a Rudd forced air furnace that is 24 years old.The main burner comes on however the blower does not come on and then the main burner turns off.

Try to spin the blower to free it up. If it spins freely, you will need to replace the motor or you have a bad connection or a bad fan control.

Electric furnace/heater pump/fan unit won't shut off

There are dip switches on the main board.. When you remove the lower panel on the air handler there are instructions to where the dip switches should be for your units fan control. if the switches are in the correct configuration.. The Thermostat may be malfunctioning or not wired properly. and last.. and most expensive.. the motherboard may also be failing.

Blower works but no heat

If in fact you have the above listed furnace, you do not have a pilot but electronic ignition. You will need to remove the front cover on the furnace, tape down the door safety switch and then have someone help you by turning up your thermostat to a very high setting. Watch and listen inside the furnace. There should be some blinking going on at the control board followed by a small blower fan starting up. Then after 10-15 seconds there should be a click followed by an orange glow viewed thru the viewing window to the burner section. In a few seconds the gas valve should click and the burners will ignite. There is a safety switch that will sense flame and then keep the gas going to the burners. If it does not sense it, it will shut it off within 10 seconds. If all is well so far, your blower will turn on in about 90 seconds after flame. There is a diagnostic code chart on the back side of the access door if you get an error code (blinking) on the control board.

Always check little things like air filter, condensate drain and broken or loose wires.

Carrier Weathermaker SX model 58SX060-CC Blower runs all the time

Remove all power from the furnace, it is likely the brain in the furnace is need of being reset, from the battery replacement, why did you change the battery, was there an indicator telling you to change it?

Many times just removing all the power to the furnace will do the trick with a reset, if not let me know and we will go from there, but it sounds like the main brain is confused or bad, more likely confused, so try the power removed first.

Than let me know wbwill@sbcglobal.net
