Try turning the camera off, take the battery out, reinsert it. If that doesn't work, the manual says to contact your local Sony dealer. You might also want to try taking the lens off, making sure nothing is hindering its communication to the camera body. Try using another lens if you have one.

Well, the good news is that there's probably no fault with the camera itself. It could be something as simple as the CF card being pushed in the wrong way. A look through the user manual will likely help you get to the bottom of your issue:

Does the error happen each and every time you take a snapshot, or only with some? As you are letting us know, have a look around the user manual to see if it can be of any help:

Error code 0x57 appears after i snap a shot.

I've just solved the problem by firmware update and battery removal for 1 day. I prepared my camera for expensive repair in service: card was formatted, battery removed .. and then in service, when I put the battery back, my camera just worked :) Try it, I hope it will help everyone.

Sony a100 error 56

Hi,

The Error code indicates the Self diagnostic message of the Camera. This message can be clearly identified by the help of a Sony Authorized service technician. The

Error code 56 indicates an issue which can be resolved by the help of a service technician. This error code may be an issue with the Shutter mechanism. Try resetting the Camera by selecting the Reset Default option in the Setup Menu 3 option. Also, try removing and reinserting the battery after 1 minute. If not resolved, get the unit serviced.

Thanks.

Error 0x57

The 0x5b error code indicates that the amount of light passing through the aperture lens is not being controlled by the F-Stop selected. error can be fixed. check out quote at www.teleplancamerarepair.com
Another thing that happens when this error is present.
When you raise the camera up to horizontal position and try to take a picture and you get the error code and again it shuts down.Tthe system is being saturated with high light levels indicating the AV drive unit which is not doing its job and controlling the aperture of the lens. This can be fixed.

Same here. My camera gives me the same error code unless I shoot with the largest aperture/smallest F-number.

Sony Alpha 100 won't acknowledge memory card

I would suggest that you give the camera to Sony service to have a look at it. The regular shop would not have the proper test facilities to properly diagnose any in depth problems with this type of camera unless they were an authorized contracted service rep. The problem may be involved.

This error message is an indication that a problem may have occurred with the aperture assembly in the camera. To resolve this issue, service will be required.
