Does it seem to be warmer that it used to be?

You have changed none of the drivers or installed anything new, including software ?

When was the last time it was serviced as far as fans cleaned ?

You have tried "RESTORING to an earlier date?

Has the hard drive been cleaned and defragmented lately?
Start with this one. If you cannot clean the hard drive .

START- MY COMPUTER- right click on hard drive picture PROPERTIES-DISK CLEAN UP.

After that is done, and it will take a while, then click on TOOLS - DEFRAG.  This might take several hours. It it gets to a % point where it wil not go past, after an hour. The hard drive is bad.

You may need to "wipe" or reformat your entire C drive to be able to install Windows program again. I would suggest installing WIN7 program as WIN XP is at its end of life cycle for that operating system and Microsoft may not support it any longer.

If possible try installing WIN7 once again, and if requested to reformat or do an entire install, choose YES.

WIN 7 should then reformat your C drive, erase everything that is on it and then install as WIN7 program.

Be sure you have your program license key to install WIN7.

Possible that PC is hanging up as there is fault on the OS (operating system) or a virus in the OS. Also it is possible that the backup battery (CMOS) has low voltage or the memory card is a suspect. In this case you need to check the voltage and also try and swap a memory card. Sometimes the memory card connections can be faulty either on the card or on the slot. Cleaning the slot and card must be done before you try a replacement. If the PC boots and fails then the hard disc can have bad sectors or is corrupt. However if there is no result the motherboard also can be suspected. In this case you might need the help of proper tools and equipment support to do a chip level service.

Hello, Abdi.

I have some suggestions for you. It's possible that your hard drive is failing. Run Diagnostics and check your hard drive. Upon boot, press F12 rapidly (or could be F2) and choose the Diagnostics.

Another suggestion is to use System Restore, in the event that your operating system file(s) is problematic. Again, boot your system to Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly when powering on). Go to System Restore and choose a date when your system worked OK. Note: with System Restore, all your updates will roll back to that date. Follow the process.

Hope this helps.

I had just purchased a Dell Inspiron N4010 laptop 2 months ago. It work well until few days ago. It hangs whilst at the screen 'starting windows'. After that it showed the message of 'check cable...

hello miss sally, hi, the operating system error may be caused by a faulty hard disk or hard disk connection cable, and the hanging thing is caused by a faulty memory module, so check then out first, swap a new memory module, and for your hard drive, take it out from your laptop and use a PC to test the drive (applicable only if your hard drive is sata.)

Despite 3 re installs, my laptop keeps bluescreening after 3 or for days. It keeps deleting dll files Any suggestions?

This sounds like a virus that folows you from install to install, I would suggest the folowing

1) save all the data to an external source

2) do a secure wipe of the full hard drive in the system

http://www.stanford.edu/group/security/securecomputing/data_destruction_Dban.html

you can download the .iso file and burn it to a cd with your favorite cd
burning software

3) re-install the operating system (again, sorry)

4) at this point do not copy anything over from your backup, first verify that the system is stable and doesnt delete dll files and blue-screening, if this is true, continue on, if not, either it is a *very* reselliant virus (possible, not likely though) or you have a hardware issue (i would start with trying a different hard drive, and moving on from there)

however if the system does seem stable, slowly move your old backed up data to your reinstalled operating system, only doing small chunks at a time and making sure it doesnt crash. if at some point it starts showing the symptoms again, it is likely that section of data that was most recently copied that is either corrupted or has a virus.

if all the data copies over and you maintain a stable system, then problem solved!

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,
Mike

Sony PC Notebook system starts but screen does not.

it may be the battery, have you replaced yet?. if a battery is too old, instead of providing power, takes some on it. I mean, your old battery may be overloading your PC, just to check, take the battery off, plug the vaio to an outlet and try again to start it up.
If that solves the problem, replacing the battery will be the solution.
